This story moves me every time I think of it!
An inmate came into my office and said, “Chaplain, I was praying about my kids and I felt that God would have me to ask you to pray and agree with me that I will find where my children are and will be allowed some limited contact with them through their adoptive parents. I asked what she knew did know about the situation. She stated that not only was it a closed adoption, and she thought that her children were living out of state in one of the five states surrounding Oklahoma. Outside of that, she knew nothing.
I told her I would agree with her, but that really, God was going to have to do some thing to find these people, since she had virtually no knowledge of where to start. I really had to stretch my faith to agree with her, but I told her I would. So we prayed.
I didn’t hear from her for about three months. Then she she came bursting into my office with tears streaming down her cheeks and a smile on her face. “Guess what?”, she said, “I received a letter from the people who had adopted all three of my kids. They said they had been trying to find me for a few months. They told me they really love my kids, but that since they are moving into their teens, they started mentioning me and they had prayed about how to handle this situation!”
She later went on to say, “I just love Jesus!” Let this be an encouragement to you that God can work in impossible situations. He is good.
