Join us this evening at 7 p.m. in the Sanctuary for the Maundy Thursday Communion & Tenebrae Service. In this service we take time to remember our Lord’s Last Supper with his first disciples. Following communion, we will hear once more the account of the hours leading up to Jesus’ death on the cross. In this Tenebrae Service, named from the Latin word for ‘darkness,’ we enter the deepening shadows as candles are extinguished and the Christ candle is removed our sight.

We must stop wandering the streets of this world, to meditate on the blood shed painfully on the cross. Fix your eyes on Christ there…. If we contemplate the cross of Christ, we will learn how to imitate the love of Jesus. — Thomas Traherne, Centuries of Meditations*

I invite you to take some time over the next three days to stop and consider how justice and love came to coexist on the cross, how God’s love met the brutal realities of this world’s injustice on the cross. “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life. Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him” (John 3:16-17)

In Christ,
Pastor Pamela
