When Brentsville Presbyterian Church was organized in 1915, the congregation worshipped in the small frame building of the Union Church. After thirty-seven years without a building, Brentsville Presbyterian Church moved into the present structure. In early March 1952, ground as broken for the present building on land donated by the late Grady B. Shoemaker and his wife, Violet. Many people contribu
ted with their money, labor, and prayers. The late Charles Croushorn, who headed the building committee, was the moving spirit of the work. With the help of Greenwich Presbyterian Church and Potomac Presbytery, it was possible to move into and dedicate the new building on July 27, 1952. At the time of the dedication, with Rev. Albert Winn as pastor, Brentsville Presbyterian Church became a part of Potomac Rural Parish, joining with the churches at Greenwich, Bealton, and Catlett. The Rural Parish served as a training-ground for students at the Union Theological Seminary in Richmond, For the first time, Brentsville Presbyterian Church was able to enjoy services every Sunday, and to have active, enriching summer programs. The people were united through the dynamic evangelistic spirit of Curtis Harper as student pastor. His skill with hammer, saw, and paint brush proved to be as encouraging as his soft-spoken, spiritual gentleness. Brentsville Presbyterian Church's first full-time pastor was Rev, Sam Haney III, whose strength helped overcome the rough spots encountered during the early years. During the ministry of
Rev. Bill Jones, the church began to grow. The sanctuary was enlarged, three classrooms and the pastor's study were added, and the first manse was built. Under the nurturing of Rev. Larry Miles, the congregation continued to grow. The steeple was added to the church, and the present manse was built to accommodate him and his family. The church is now under the guidance of Chaplin Ralph Benson (2002- present): Over the
years this little white church" has continued to grow and touch the lives of many through worship, music, community outreach, and service. Thank you for gathering to praise God for blessing this church and Ministry, and for celebrating with us the church’s 100 years of service to the community. We would love to have you come and worship with us.
