My latest piece for the installation of the new Dean of St. Paul’s Cathedral in Detroit. Lots of symbolism within! Detroit was important in the Underground Railroad movement, hence the Big Dipper on his right shoulder pointing to the Northern Star on the left shoulder… reflecting the code song “Follow the Drinking Gourd”. And “Wade in the Water”, God’s gonna trouble the waters…. Plus the skyline, two iconic bridges and the Cathedral itself plus so much more!

This is a Lenten stole created for the priest using drawings from her daughter. I love how meaningful it is.

Making personal journey stoles is one of my favorite things to create. Here is my latest. Each flower represents someone instrumental in her journey to ordination.

Each one I have made tells the unique story of the person for whom it was created and invites others into the holiness of the journey. I believe a personal journey stole done well contains dozens of sermons. One that stays with me is why I still keep my aol address.. it had a hidden in plain sight image that was not obvious in any way but an essential part of their story. About 20 or so years after I had made it, I received an email from the priest asking if I remembered. It is one I will never forget. They told me they had told many a sermon based on the stole but had never mentioned this until the same thing happened to a member of their congregation. They went to the person and wrapped them both in the stole and told them the story. Such a blessing to have been told!

This is a personal journey set that tells the story of the priest for whom it was created. I love making these! I always say there should be at least a dozen sermons within but the story is for the priest to tell, not me. What would yours look like?

I started making both stained glass and paraments back in 1980. Recently, I completed a banner for the Church of the Annunciation in Texas based on the beautiful Tiffany window of the Annunciation that graces their space. I really like their message “Come as you are Be who you are” Everyone would be blessed to hear just that! Combining my two passions was a very special gift for me, indeed!

On this TDOV, I want to share some of the pieces I have created to honor and celebrate my trans siblings. When I found this fabric, I knew exactly what it would become. Do look closely at the faces within. Happy Trans Day of Visibility!
