“I love my babies, and I just really want to get better for them,” certified nursing assistant and father of two Stephen Cornett told me as he explained what he’s now facing.

Here’s what Stephen shared:

I'm from Bristol Tennessee and I have a very rare kidney disorder that affects 1 in 44,000 people.

I've had it for 25 years and have been able to manage with oral medication until November.

Until then I had worked as a Certified Nurses Assistant for over 13 years. In November I was in the middle of my shift and began to feel sick and weak.

It progressed and I had to be rushed to the hospital. Over time my condition has become more serious and I'm now starting twice a day IV infusions.

I've been out of work since this event happened and have remained sick. I have been without insurance and denied Tenncare. I have been scrambling to try to get some help.
