WORSHIP THIS SUNDAY!
OCTOBER 20, 2024, 9:30 A.M.
THE TWENTY-SECOND SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST
CELEBRATE 39 YEARS OF LIFE TOGETHER
AS SAINT ANDREW LUTHERAN CHURCH
AT CLOSING WORSHIP SERVICE,
THIS SUNDAY, OCTOBER 20, 9:30 A.M.
With song, prayer and overflowing gratitude to God
we will gather around Word and Table this Sunday
to celebrate 39 years of rich and faithful ministry
at the closing worship service for St. Andrew Church.
This Sunday as we gather our memories and stories of life together
in this beloved congregation that was itself a merger of two congregations in 1985, we at the same time will lean expectantly into the days ahead
when we will join with the people of the current Grace Lutheran (Plainville) and Zion Lutheran (Bristol) Churches to give birth to the new Faith Lutheran Church on October 27, Reformation Sunday.
Invite family and friends to come share our service of thanksgiving this Sunday. We will welcome the Rev. Perry Beaver and his wife Sally who will be joining us for the service this Sunday. Pastor Beaver served as interim pastor of St. Andrew from 2012-14. Greetings from former pastors will also be shared.
And plan on continuing the celebration this Sunday by sharing
in the special Coffee Hour following worship.
For all that has been,
for all that is now,
and for all that is yet to be,
thanks be to God!
REJOICE AND GIVE THANKS TO GOD
AT THE BIRTH OF FAITH LUTHERAN CHURCH!
REFORMATION SUNDAY, OCTOBER 27!
After a year and a half of prayerful discernment, thoughtful planning and hard work, the new Faith Lutheran Church - a joining together of the people of Grace Lutheran Church, Plainville, Zion Lutheran Church and St. Andrew Lutheran Church of Bristol — will celebrate its first worship service on Reformation Sunday, October 27, 9:30 a.m., at the new congregation’s home at 1125 Stafford Ave., Bristol.
To bring three congregations together to form a new ministry is a bold, courageous act of faith and trust in the Spirit’s leading. Come celebrate this day of new life and hope!
The Rev. Steven Wilco, Assistant to the Bishop of the New England Synod, who has helped guide the formation of this new congregation since the early days of our joint conversations, will be the preacher for the celebration.
You are encouraged to wear something red, the color of the day!
It is hoped that many of the renovations of the chancel area of the church will be completed by the 27th. Work is progressing nearly daily to create a beautiful new space for a new worshipping community.
A festive Potluck Brunch is being planned following worship. You are invited to bring a favorite dish to share for the brunch. Come share the new life of Faith Church around tables of good food and joyful conversation!

FILL YOUR TRUNK WITH A BUNCH OF PUMPKINS
FROM THE FAITH CHURCH PUMPKIN PATCH!
It’s a beautiful sight as you drive by the church at 1125 Stafford Ave — a patch of colorful, various sized pumpkins … over 800 of them just waiting for you to stop by and pick up a trunkful!
The Faith Church Pumpkin Patch will be open for business from 11:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. daily. Prices vary by size. The patch will remain open until October 31 when all the leftover pumpkins will turn into friendly round orange ghosts and goblins that will inhabit the woods behind the church.
Proceeds from the Pumpkin sale will go into a special fund for a new sign along the street welcoming people to Faith Lutheran Church.
Our thanks to Jon Fitzgerald for heading this effort up and to the whole team of folks who helped set up the pumpkin patch last Friday and who are helping with the daily sales. Help is always needed on a daily basis.

WELCOME TO KAREN ALERS,
NEW ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT FOR FAITH LUTHERAN CHURCH!
A warm welcome to Karen Alers who has already begun her work as the new Administrative Assistant for Faith Lutheran Church. She stepped into this position on Tuesday of this week, October 15.
Karen will be responsible for all our church communications, office administration, as well as greeting you on the phone and at the door with a helpful voice.
Watch for new week’s NewsNotes for details on her office hours.

ANOTHER TREMENDOUS TAG SALE AND MORE!
THANKS TO ALL!
With countless helping hands and high spirits, the Autumn Tag Sale was another tremendous success. Our thanks to Robin Landrette, the heart and soul behind this venture, and all who worked with and alongside her. And thanks to Roy Ouellette, master hot dog chef, his kitchen crew, and all the cookie bakers for a great lunch. The report from the backroom has it that the Tag Sale produced nearly $3,600 in funds to support the ministry of the new Faith Lutheran Church. Our thanks to all!
AND DON’T FORGET … IT’S SOCK-TOBER!
When you come to the Pumpkin Patch this month don’t forget to bring a new pair or two of socks that will go to folks who come for assistance to the Saint Vincent DePaul Center in Bristol and the Friendship Center in New Britain.
Donations of non-perishable food will also be welcomed when you come to the Patch. They will be forwarded to Gloria Dei Church and to Meals for Neighbors for their food distribution ministries.
LUTHERANS RESPOND TO HURRICANE HELENE AND MILTON!
We have all been horrified by the destructive power of Hurricane Helene with Milton following in its wake. Many of us may know people who have been directly affected by the storms. Lutheran Disaster Relief is now active in critical relief work. Please read these notes from LDR and offer your help …
Our response:
Lutheran Disaster Response works with its partners to provide immediate relief, such as water, food, clothing, gift cards, tarps and other needs. Since many hurricanes also require a long-term response, Lutheran Disaster Response provides support on the long road to recovery with disaster case management, construction management, attention to unmet needs, and emotional and spiritual care.
What you can do:
Pray
Please pray for the safety of communities impacted by hurricanes, including people in their paths and any emergency services personnel who are responding. May God’s healing presence give them peace and hope in their time of need. Pray that God will deliver comfort to those who mourn and strength to those working diligently to rescue survivors.
Give
Your gifts will support disaster-impacted communities. Gifts to Lutheran Disaster Response (elca.org) equip us to respond to those affected by hurricanes and related disasters, such as mudslides, severe storms and flooding. These gifts also empower us to respond to disasters whenever and wherever they strike. Gifts to “Hurricane Response" will be used in full (100%) to assist those affected by hurricanes, until the response is complete.
