It has been a great privilege to be called by God to be a pastor. Yet being a pastor is not for the timid. Despite what many think, a pastor is not a CEO, an entertainer, or a one-day a week job. Pastoring is very hard work. It can be joy-filled, terrifying, exhausting, trying, wearing, emotional toil, with some of those things overlapping on the same day! And the Bible details that hard work along with some responsibilities of the sheep. Discover more as we continue our series in Colossians on Sun. 5/31 at Friendship Baptist Church @ 10a.m. (also Facebook Live my page) for the message, "Of Pastors and Their Sheep" (Colossians 1: 24-25,28-2:1). Come and celebrate what God has ordained, the marvelous relationship between a pastor and their sheep!

As we've been going through chapter 1 of Colossians, I've been reminded how rich this letter is in its depth of theology and how much it acknowledges Jesus as supreme over all creation. Our series is called "Supreme Christ, Supreme Living," indicating that there is a best life Christians can have. Part of that, of course, is eternal life. But there is a supreme life we can have right here, right now because of our supreme Lord. If you want that supreme living, join us on Sun. 5/24 at Friendship Baptist Church @ 10a.m. (also Facebook Live my page) for my message, "Christ In You, the Hope of Glory" (Colossians 1:24-27). Discover the abundant and beautiful walk you can have right now with Jesus!

When two sides are tired of war, usually envoys from both sides get together and hammer out terms for peace. Many people think the same thing happens regarding peace with God. They actually think they make peace with God. Nothing could be further from the truth because we don't make peace with God......He makes peace with us. And He does that in a very specific way. Learn more on Sun. 5/17 at Friendship Baptist Church @ 10a.m. (also Facebook Live my page) as we continue our 30-part Colossians series with my message, "Christ's Reconciling Work" (Colossians 1:19-23). Discover how peace is obtained and how the work of Jesus on the Cross washes over your entire life!

Is Jesus Lord of your life? Does He occupy first place alone? Most Christians I know would enthusiastically say "YES! ABSOLUTELY! Jesus IS Lord of my life!" That's what we all want. But is that statement the reality every week, every day, every second. Is Jesus Lord truly over everyone, everything, every moment in my life? He should be because He deserves that place. Learn more on Sun. 5/10 at Friendship Baptist Church @ 10a.m. (also Facebook Live my page) as we discover why it always needs to be "Jesus Above All" (Colossians 1:15-18). Jesus can't just be Lord of some moments; He needs to be Lord over all!

There are actual instances where people who have been saved from certain death have not even thought to thank the very hero who rescued them. That hardly seems the proper attitude toward someone who saved our life. And it certainly shouldn't be the attitude of anyone whose soul was saved by Jesus. A never-ending attitude of gratitude should be the mindset of every Christian when it comes to what Jesus did to save us. We will learn about that on Sun. 5/3 at Friendship Baptist Church @ 10a.m. (also Facebook Live my page) as we discover why we should always be "Thankful for What God Has Done" (Colossians 1:12-14). Discover the many reasons we have to be thankful to the rescuer of our souls!
