There are people who are seem so vibrant in their faith, seem to be clearly following Christ. It's seen in their excited worship, their service to others, and their enthusiastic outreach. Yet at home, it's a totally different story. It's almost as if they're different people, not at all how they portray themselves in public. Home life, however, should exactly echo the rest of our faith walk, even if we're only a home of one. Can you imagine having the opportunity to have the absolute best life has to offer...and yet settling for something less than that? Settling for fine, for good and leaving the best untouched, unwanted? Sounds silly, doesn't it? Yet many Christians do that every day. Jesus has given them abundant life and they settle for good. Why would we possibly do that when Jesus wants so much more for us now, today, in this life. We have spent 6 messages on the clothing of the Christian, looking at compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, patient endurance and forgiveness. As with any outfit, there is usually one piece that pulls it all together to leave us perfectly dressed. That piece is the glue that holds everything together perfectly and it must be there if we expect to live a truly Christ-like life. That piece must fuel everything we say, think and do for Jesus. Elton John wrote a song called "Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word"...and it is certainly true that it's hard to say we're sorry. Yet I think there's a harder thing to say because, when we are hurt, attacked or betrayed, we resist letting go. We sink our teeth into it. We become angry, resentful, bitter and hate-filled. All because sorry isn't the hardest thing to say......"I forgive you" is. And when we don't forgive, we lock ourselves into a prison of our own making. How can we avoid that and fulfill our calling to be like Jesus? It's hard to go through stuff. It's even harder to persevere, to endure through the trial. It could be personal attacks or insults; persecution; a severe medical crisis; financial troubles, etc. We want it to end so badly that we even might consider giving up. Yet the Christian can have peace and endure because of something given at conversion...and we must tap into it because we are called to reflect Jesus even on our darkest days, in the most troubling times.
