WHO WE ARE

Brighton Allston Congregational Church is a small, diverse community of folks who gather regularly to worship God and to serve others. This is a space of healing, comfort, and spiritual deepening. Most of us live in t

he Allston or Brighton neighborhoods of Boston. We come from many nationalities, ethnicities, life experiences, and religious, educational, and economic backgrounds. We are an "Open and Affirming" congregation of the United Church of Christ (UCC), which means that we recognize all people—of every race, age, ability, gender, and sexual orientation—as children of God, welcome in every aspect of our church life. In word and action, worship and service, we seek to nourish heart, mind, body, and spirit in our ministry together. You are welcome to worship, pray, and fellowship with us! Please join us this Sunday at 10:30 am for worship. "Come bring your happy and hurting hearts,
your searching and supple spirits,
your wise and whimsical beings,
so God may embrace and empower us for good." OUR DOORS ARE OPEN TO ALL. The church building is handicapped accessible; the ramp is located on the Dighton Street side of the building. This brings you to the first floor of the church where the sanctuary, after-church gathering area, Thrift Shop and the accessible restroom are located. The Community Supper is downstairs in the basement; there is a stair-lift on these stairs. People come here for many reasons, and from many different backgrounds. We are gay and lesbian-friendly; kid friendly, senior friendly, and all ages in between friendly; married, single, widowed, or partnered-friendly; some of us are new to faith and some are life-long believers; here, those things are celebrated as part of what makes you unique. Here, we are all children of God.

Join us tonight for a Good Friday Service with the Eliot Church of Newton at 7pm EST. The service will reflect on the Seven Last Words of Jesus and include reflections from the people in our scriptures who were present at the cross that day.

The service will be held at Eliot Church in their sanctuary and is reachable via bus, car, or bike. Online worship is available at Eliot Church of Newton Facebook Live and YouTube.

Good Friday is the day we remember Jesus’ deepest love through his suffering and death on the cross. On this day, we recognize that the suffering of Christ is echoed in the lives of many of our siblings around us. Let us seek to be disciples to each other, working for justice, healing and peace so that all may experience the kingdom of God that is love, peace, hope and community, on earth as it is in heaven.

We hope you will join us tonight for worship.

Join us tonight for Good Friday at Eliot Church of Newton. Tonight will be a collaborative service with the Brighton Allston Congregational Church (United Church of Christ)

Good Friday is the day we remember Jesus’ deep love shown on the cross—his sacrifice that made way for new life. It’s a quiet, reflective moment in the story of our faith, preparing our hearts for the joy of Easter.

Families are warmly welcome. A prayground with coloring pages and books is available in the back of the sanctuary for children.

Our building is in need of emergency care this winter. Several areas of our church roof have been burdened with snow dams, causing water infiltration into our building. Because our community moves with adaptability and compassion, we initially found ways to still operate our food programs with limited interior access. However, the damage has exceeded our scope and capacity for partial operations, prompting the need for an immediate pause on all of our programming until February 21st. This date may change, and we will give weekly updates as repairs progress. The building is temporarily closed out of an abundance of caution for our beloved community while we work closely with a professional team to complete our roof repairs.

What does that mean for Sunday Worship Service?
Worship service will be held exclusively virtually at this time. You can attend by joining over Zoom or watch on Facebook Live. If you do not have access to the Zoom link, please email our Receptionist- [email protected]

What does that mean for the Thrift Store?
At this time, our inventory has been relocated to accommodate repairs and there is insufficient space to hold our operations. We will remain closed temporarily until we have safe entry and adequate space for our guests. In celebration of black history month, we invite you to redirect your clothing donations and thrift store volunteer hours to support Heal The Hood in JP. They host a free-store for families living on the margins facing housing and financial instability due to gentrification in Boston.

What does that mean for the food program?
Our food programs are unfortunately paused during the building closure. We will continue stocking and encouraging others to stock the Community Fridge, located in our parking lot area near our garden side entrance. And of course, we will continue to monitor the situation with urgency so that we can continue our commitment to serving our community as soon as possible. In the meantime, please find these resources and spread them far and wide:

We send a warm thank you for your solidarity and patience as we navigate our building's care. Please don't hesitate to call our office with any questions at (617) 254-4046.

This Wednesday, join us at BACC for our Christmas Eve service at 7pm! We will have a beautiful service with communion and candlelight.

We will have our community supper with regular service hours in the afternoon. We would love to have any and all volunteers for that as some of our amazing volunteers are away for the holiday.

The first Transgender Day of Rememberance vigil was first held in 1998 following the murder of Rita Hester, a black transgender woman who lived in Allston. Her death came after the deaths of other trans women, Chanelle Picket and Monique Thomas in Watertown and Boston.

Since that first service, many more transgender and gender fabulous people have lost their lives because of hatred and transphobia. We lament that these acts of violence have occurred and call for action to protect our siblings.

Our congregation upholds and affirms the life of every transgender and gender non conforming person as beloved by God and made in the image of God. We honor the lives of our transgender siblings who have gone before us and become our ancestors. We celebrate the holiness and love that each person has. We continue to commit to work towards justice and equity so that all transgender and gender fabulous people can live lives of dignity and joy.
