Solomon tried it all. Pleasure, possessions, success, entertainmentโ€ฆ and yet, at the end of it all, he was still searching.

2. He Perceived it (v.14)

โ€ข Striving after wind - is exhausting yourself pursuing something you can never ultimately possess

3. He Couldnโ€™t Fix It (v.15)
โ€ข Wisdom can diagnose the problem, but wisdom cannot always fix the problem.
โ€ข Crooked - something distorted, bent, perverted, or out of order
โ€ข Lacking - deficiency, something missing, a lack or shortcoming

4. He Pushed Further (vv.16-17)
โ€ข โ€œApplied my heartโ€ - he deliberately devoted himself to something. He gave his mind, attention, effort, and desire to pursuing it
โ€ข The word โ€œmadnessโ€ carries the idea of irrationality, senselessness, or behavior that is out of control
โ€ข โ€œFollyโ€ is living wrongly despite knowing better. Itโ€™s choosing foolishness when you know there is a better way.

1. Like under the sun is fleeting (vv.1-4)
* The name Ecclesiastes comes from the Greek title of the book and refers to someone who speaks to an assembly
* The Hebrew word is Qoheleth (ko-hehโ€™-leth), meaning โ€œPreacherโ€ or โ€œTeacherโ€
* Vanity - v***r, breath, mist, smoke, fleeting-ness
* James 4:14
* The tragedy of man is trying to find something eternal in a world that is temporary
* Psalm 144:4
* Gain - to remain over, to be left over, to have surplus, profit, or lasting benefit
* It is something that remains after everything else has been accounted for
* Toil - work, labor, trouble, wearisome effort, hard work, and fatigue

2. Life under the sun is repetitive (vv.5-7)
* Hastens - hurrying or panting toward its destination
* It rises, it moves across the sky, it sets, and then it hurries right back to where it started
* The sun has a cycle. The wind has a cycle. The water has a cycle.
* Everything keeps moving. Everything keeps repeating. Everything keeps returning.

3. Life under the sun is unsatisfying (v.8)
* All things - everything
* Weariness - labor, toil, and exhaustion
* โ€œA man cannot utter itโ€ - there arenโ€™t enough words to describe how exhausting all of this can become
* 2 examples:
* The eyes seeing
* The ears hearing

4. Life under the sun is unable to ultimately give us anything new (vv.9-10)
* Nothing new - nothing new will be discovered

5. Life under the sun is quickly forgotten (v.11)
* You can spend your whole life trying to build a name, and eventually your name will fade

Groups will meet at 5๏ธโƒฃPM with three locations to choose from and are a great time to fellowship & study Godโ€™s word together outside of the Church in a causal setting. Weโ€™ll eat dinner together followed by an in depth study of the Word. Each home will be studying something different so find a home and get plugged in. If you havenโ€™t been, make plans to attend.
