Bridport Congregational Church

Bridport Congregational Church The Bridport Congregational Church is a community of people who are following Jesus Christ together. We worship together on Sunday mornings at 10:30.

We are loving God, loving others, and making disciples. We do this by worshiping together, eating together, playing together, learning together, and serving together. In short, living life together. Everyone is welcome to join us on our journey. Our weekly worship gathering is on Sunday mornings at 10:30. There are other times during the week when we are gathering in homes for prayer, study, and meals. Contact us if you would like more information about those gatherings.

Spring is coming to Vermont! We see new signs of life every day. The forsythia has popped out in just the past few days. What signs of new life are you seeing around you? What signs of new life are you seeing in you? Because of the resurrection of Jesus, new life is inside us! Share your signs of new life here, or join us for our Sunday worship gathering. We meet on Zoom every Sunday morning. Send us a message and we will share the Zoom invitation with you!

Happy Ascension Day!

"We worship a God who remembers what it is like to die a human death, whose wounded and resurrected body is the antidote to death. As the human who exists beyond the touch of death, this one who remembers all our faces can keep his promises—promises he makes as the new human and as God.

And it is this wounded God with human memories whose rule of resurrection overcomes death, whose rule of forgiveness overcomes sin, whose rule of welcome overcomes estrangement. Now and forever no other human except Jesus Christ governs this wide globe, no matter how certain their control may seem.

Jesus Christ is (in all of these and countless others) Lord."-

Many of you met Francoise when she visited our worship service with Ron and Gina. Read below about her recent award.

Francoise Niyigena ‘21 received the Dana Morosini ‘84 Memorial Public Service Award, which honors the student who best exemplifies Dana’s spirit and determination as she tirelessly and selflessly devoted her life to caring for her husband Christopher Reeve and to her work as an advocate for all those with spinal cord injuries.

During Francoise’s first year at Middlebury College she arrived at the question: “What is the purpose of education...What more can it be?” This theme of exploring and making more of education--for herself and others -- has been a thread throughout her subsequent three years. Francoise brought this question to presenting in multiple Vermont classrooms through Language in Motion, participating in and leading MAlt trips focusing on education, developing and facilitating an innovative and holistic curriculum through TEACHRwanda, and working with 65 students at Nu-Vision High School in Rwanda to rethink the colonial education system. Thank you, Francoise, and congratulations!

As March is coming to an end in this unusual time of illness and anxiety, we are pausing again to hear what the crocus is saying to us. What do you hear? What do you see?

I see small blossoms on a gray day with a message of resilience and hope. Regardless of what is happening in the world, this is their time to bloom. And so they do, unconcerned with whether I or anyone else notices. Maybe they bloom for themselves. Or for their Maker. Regardless, they are lovely. And so are you. So don't be afraid. Bloom.

These are just a few of the crocuses we saw while strolling the mostly empty sidewalks of Middlebury today. We live in a world resplendent with beauty. Even if there is no one around to observe, Earth continues to be beautiful, amazing, and astounding in all seasons and circumstances. Take some time to find and contemplate this good home that we have, and give thanks. Breathe in the calm assurance of the crocus and release your fear.

I saw these beauties while walking with a friend yesterday. They are buried under snow today, but still there. Spring is here. Life is here. Love is here.
