Divine Mercy Sunday (Second Sunday of Easter)

“My daughter, tell the whole world about My inconceivable mercy. I desire that the Feast of Mercy be a refuge and shelter for all souls, and especially for poor sinners. On that day the very depths of My tender mercy are open. I pour out a whole ocean of graces upon those souls who approach the Fount of My mercy. The soul that will go to Confession and receive Holy Communion shall obtain complete forgiveness of sins and punishment. … Let no soul fear to draw near to Me. … It is My desire that it be solemnly celebrated on the first Sunday after Easter. Mankind will not have peace until it turns to the Fount of My Mercy.”

“Christ became obedient to the point of death,
even death on a cross.
Because of this, God greatly exalted him
and bestowed on him the name which is above every other name.”

Weather Emergency & Mass Attendance

With the snow storm this weekend, please know that no one is held to Sunday Mass obligation if they feel danger in traveling. The safety of you and your family is important. For this reason and under these circumstances we live-stream all weekend masses from our website for those unable to attend.

Also, our cemetery will be closed on Sunday and there will be no access to the road between the cemetery and the parish parking lot.
Please stay safe and use good judgement regarding any travel you may consider. Please know of my prayers for you and your family.

Prayer for Our New Bishop
Lord Jesus Christ, eternal High Priest and Good Shepherd, we thank you for the many blessings that you have poured on our Local Church of Metuchen. We thank you for James, our 5th Bishop, and for his many gifts in shepherding your people. Hear our prayer for the selection of a new Bishop for your Local Church of Metuchen.

We pray for Leo, our Pope, that he is given wisdom in discernment and given wise counsel as he selects our next Bishop, who would be ever more conformed to You, the Divine Master. Lord, we pray that our next Bishop will have a heart on fire for you and for your Church. May he be filled with wisdom, faithfulness, holiness, and zeal for reigniting the faith and spreading the Gospel throughout Central New Jersey.

Through the prayers of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Your Mother and ours, draw our new Bishop and the flocks entrusted to his care to the fullness of eternal life where you live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, God, forever and ever. Amen.

This morning (September 24th) in Rome it was announced that His Holiness Pope Leo XIV has appointed Bishop James F. Checchio as the Coadjutor Archbishop of New Orleans. A “coadjutor” bishop is appointed to assist the diocesan bishop until his retirement. This means that New Orleans Archbishop Gregory M. Aymond will continue to lead the Archdiocese of New Orleans, until such time that the Holy Father accepts his resignation. When that happens, he will then be automatically succeeded by Archbishop-designate Checchio. In the meantime, Bishop Checchio now becomes the Administrator of the Diocese of Metuchen with our diocesan offices functioning as normal. A date for his departure to the Archdiocese of New Orleans is still being decided. Obviously, when that date becomes known, an announcement will be made for a Mass of farewell. More information can be found on our diocesan website and the website of the Archdiocese of New Orleans.

Bishop Checchio asks that you keep him in your prayers in a particular way in the days and weeks ahead.

According to the Church's Canon Law, a "Coadjutor" bishop is appointed to assist the diocesan bishop until his retirement. This means that New Orleans Archbishop Gregory M. Aymond will continue to lead the Archdiocese of New Orleans, until such time that the Holy Father accepts his re...
