In 2018 Pope Francis instituted today's Memorial of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of the Church:

"O God, Father of mercies,
whose Only Begotten Son, as he hung upon the Cross,
chose the Blessed Virgin Mary, his Mother,
to be our Mother also,
grant, we pray, that with her loving help
your Church may be more fruitful day by day
and, exulting in the holiness of her children,
may draw to her embrace all the families of the peoples.

Today is the great feast of Pentecost, the birthday of the Church. We remember the coming of the Holy Spirit, upon the Apostles and the Blessed Mother, as promised by Jesus and recorded in the Acts of the Apostles. We celebrate the reception of the Spirit by each one of us through the Sacraments of Baptism and Confirmation in particular, but at work in them all. We believe in the power of the Holy Spirit dwelling in each one of us, helping us to become the person God created us to be; his beloved son or daughter. Celebrate by wearing RED to Mass today!!
