(ROUTE 36/GRIZZLY SLIDE UPDATE) HOLIDAY WEEKEND WORK SCHEDULE: Travelers on Route 36 west of Grizzly Creek Redwoods State Park in Humboldt County should continue to expect weekday traffic holds between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. while slide stabilization work continues. However, no work is scheduled for Friday, July 3, or Monday, July 6. That means the hour-long traffic holds are not expected on those days.
During active work windows, holds may last up to one hour, with traffic released at the top of each hour.
Further ahead, travelers should expect 30-minute delays on Saturday, July 11.
Spider excavators are continuing to move material down the slope. During this work, large rocks, stumps and other material can reach the road below, so we cannot safely run traffic through the area during active holds.
We know these holds are challenging, especially on a rural route with limited options. They are also necessary to keep travelers and crews safe while this work continues.
As always, schedules can shift based on field conditions, equipment needs and weather. For updates, follow us here or check quickmap.dot.ca.gov or the QuickMap app.
