HAVE YOU BEEN SET FREE?
Bruno Andrade
I believe people in this generation feel trapped and scared. They don't live in a physical prison, but are imprisoned by their own desires. Some manage to live a life away from this jail but remain trapped in their petty religiosities, superstitions, and idol worship. Others live in fear of living, not having money, getting old, getting sick, the future, or the destiny of their children. God wants to set you free from these feelings.
Not everyone is trapped in drugs, drink, and s*x. Yes, all of this pulls man in and leads him to ruin, but some of you do not find peace; others are trapped by unforgiveness, trapped by greed, ensnared by your ego, pinned down by perfectionism, imprisoned by frustrations, or detained by the past. There are many people stuck to life goals they cling to with the wrong motivations, causing them to have false self-esteem.
I feel strongly that people are trapped in their own dreams. They try to find meaning in their lives, but do not realize that the enemy can destroy us, even in our dreams for our lives. Some of you can't find a meaning for life, so questions keep popping into your mind: Why live? Is there a purpose for my life?
When Jesus said that the truth will set you free, it was not only an implication of scandalous sin, but a reference to even the simplest things—our daily lives, and the secrets of our hearts. Some of you try to control yourselves and even say that you can exercise self-control, but you know that you are not free from sin. One day or another, you will give way to desire. Frustration will be imminent, and this is not the freedom that Christ was talking about.
Perhaps you are wondering why Jesus would want to set you free from your own dilemmas. He wants to do so because He loves you and there is abundant life with Him. There is a purpose greater than our petty goals, and our dreams do not compare with His purposes for us. It doesn't matter who you are, where you came from, or how many years these evil desires have imprisoned you—Jesus is the Great Deliverer, and He wants to set you free you from all these oppressive feelings!
