St. John the Baptist Catholic Church - Bridgeport, PA We are a Catholic Church in the Ordinariate of the Chair of Saint Peter serving the Philadelphia area Overview

St. The altar is at the center of parish life.

John the Baptist Catholic Church is a formerly Anglican, now fully Catholic parish in the Personal Ordinariate of the Chair of Saint Peter. The Ordinariate is the North American diocese created by Benedict XVI for formerly Anglican parishes like ours. We are obedient to the Vicar of Christ, Pope Francis, and to the Magisterium of the Catholic Church in all things. Our beautiful and traditional lit

urgy, which seeks to preserve elements of Anglicanism within the Catholic Church, is approved by the Vatican for use in the Ordinariate. We are located in Bridgeport, PA and serve the Philadelphia area. Our worship

The parish uses Divine Worship (a missal completed by the Vatican in 2015 for use in the Ordinariates) and the Hymnal 1940. We celebrate Rites with traditional ceremonies which set forth in action the belief that our Lord is really here present. The sacrament is perpetually reserved in the Oratory at the rectory for devotion and for the communion of the sick. For answers to some common general questions about our liturgy, see our liturgy FAQs. For more detailed information specifically about our Missal, see missal FAQs. Our history

The Blessed John Henry Newman Fellowship and the Church of Saint Michael the Archangel were Anglican communities that entered the Ordinariate in 2014 and 2012, respectively. The two communities merged during Advent 2015. We are extremely grateful to Our Lady of the Assumption (Strafford) and Holy Cross (Mt. Airy), which warmly welcomed us into the Catholic Church and were our homes until we merged and found a permanent home in Bridgeport, PA.

As usual we will have a 10 am Sung Mass on Memorial Day offered for those who gave their lives in service to our country.

Normally this is a full Requiem Mass, but since this year it falls in the Octave of Pentecost, it will be the Mass of the day with a commemoration of the departed.

Please join us this Saturday to pray for our country. All are welcome!

In 1896, Pope Leo XIII declared that Anglican orders are 'absolutely null and utterly void.' Why should Catholics—or Anglicans—care?

I beheld water flowing out of the Temple, from the right side thereof, Alleluia!
And all to whom this water came were saved,
And they shall say: Alleluia, Alleluia!

This beautiful passage from Ezekiel 47, used also in the Vidi Aquam of the Roman Rite during Paschaltide, was the subject of our Bright Monday sermon given by Fr. Andrij Hlabse, SJ.

"O Death, where is your sting? O Hell, where is your victory? Christ is Risen and you are overthrown. Christ is Risen and the demons are fallen. Christ is Risen and the Angels rejoice. Christ is Risen and Life reigns. Christ is Risen and not one dead remains in the grave. For Christ, being Risen from the dead is become the First Fruits of those who have fallen asleep. To Him be glory and dominion unto ages of ages.”

"Today a great silence reigns on earth, a great silence and a great stillness. A great stillness because the King is asleep. The earth trembled and is still because God has fallen asleep in the flesh and has raised up all who have slept since the world began…"
