Today marks the anniversary of the death of Knights of Columbus founder Father Michael J. McGivney. Less than a year after his passing in 1890, a eulogy by John Garrity was quoted in Connecticut Catholic: “[Father McGivney] was a man of the people. He was ever zealous for the people's welfare and all the kindliness of his priestly soul asserted itself most strongly in his unceasing efforts for the betterment of their condition. . . Oh, Reverend Founder, if naught else in all thy holy priestly career merited for thy heavenly rest, that act alone of thine, which gave life to the Knights of Columbus, has surely secured for thee everlasting joy, and eternal peace.”

Happy Birthday to our namesake, Blessed Michael McGivney! Born in 1852, Father McGivney’s life of charity, evangelization, and empowerment of the laity continues to guide not only the organization he founded, the Knights of Columbus, but also Catholics around the world.
