HOLD ON
Read Scripture: Matthew 14:22–33
Life sometimes feels like a stormy sea. The winds of trouble rise, the waves of uncertainty surround us, and fear threatens to overwhelm our faith. In Matthew 14, the disciples found themselves in a boat battered by strong winds. Then Jesus came towards them, walking on the water.
Peter said, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.” Jesus simply answered, “Come.” Peter stepped out of the boat and began walking towards Jesus. However, when he took his eyes off Jesus and focused on the wind, he became afraid and began to sink.
Peter cried, “Lord, save me!” Immediately, Jesus reached out His hand and caught him.
This passage reminds us to hold on. Hold on when the storms of life become fierce. Hold on when circumstances seem impossible. Hold on when fear tells you that you are going under. Most importantly, hold on to Jesus.
Sometimes our faith will waver. We may become distracted by sickness, grief, financial difficulties, family problems, or uncertainty about the future. Yet even when our grip on God becomes weak, God’s grip on us remains strong. Jesus did not abandon Peter because he doubted. He reached out and rescued him.
Whatever storm you are facing this week, keep your eyes fixed on Jesus. Do not allow the wind to become greater than the One who controls it. The same Jesus who walked upon the water is walking towards you. He is present in your storm, and His hand is extended.
Hold on to your faith. Hold on to God’s promises. Hold on in prayer. You may feel shaken, but you are not forsaken. Jesus is near, and He will not allow you to sink.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, help me to keep my eyes fixed on You. When fear rises and my faith becomes weak, reach out Your hand and hold me. Give me strength to hold on until the storm passes. Amen.
