Keeping our friends at Abiding Savior in Fairview in our prayers this week as they celebrate their final worship services.

"Abiding Savior, Fairview, will hold a Celebration of Ministry service on Sunday, June 7, at 11 a.m. and its final service on Sunday, June 14, at 11 a.m. All are invited to these final services to help celebrate what Abiding Savior has been in the lives of its members and wider community and to say goodbye to a special place for so many."

PRAYER FOR THOSE WHO HAVE GIVEN THEIR LIVES

God of glory, in whose hands are the living and the dead, we give you thanks for all those who have laid down their lives in the service of our country. Give us a sense of your will and purpose, that we may understand that the work you have begun in them will be perfected through the one who has laid down his life for our sake, in whom all strife is resolved, Jesus Christ, the Prince of peace. Presiding Bishop Yehiel Curry has released a statement on the shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego.

“As the ELCA, we must speak plainly: violence rooted in hatred is sin. We condemn Islamophobia and acknowledge its rise in recent years. Our church affirms that “anti-Muslim hatred is antithetical to our Christian faith” (A Declaration of the ELCA to the Muslim Community), for we are called to love our neighbor in ways that cast out fear (1 John 4:18).”

O God, on this day you open the hearts of your faithful people by sending into us your Holy Spirit. Direct us by the light of that Spirit, that we may have a right judgment in all things and rejoice at all times in your peace, through Jesus Christ, your Son and our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
