SERMON: "Seeing, Hearing, and Sowing" from Matthew 13:1–23.

In this text, Jesus begins to implement a new teaching strategy: parables. Parables are practical stories, drawn from ordinary experiences, that carry spiritual truths. The first parable in Matthew's Gospel helps us make sense of the varying responses so far to Jesus and His ministry.

In this sermon, Pastor Andrew helps us understand not only the Parable of the Sower, but also the purpose of parables themselves. Jesus' parables reveal truths about His Kingdom and about our own hearts.

We enjoyed our time in the Psalms this summer, but we're excited to jump back in to the New Testament. We're picking up the story in chapter 13. To read ahead, spend some time in Matthew 13:1-23, meditating on the Parable of the Sower.

Psalm 49 is a wisdom psalm that asks a philosophical, but very practical question for us: should we be afraid of the wicked and the wealthy?

In this sermon, Pastor Andrew shows us that we should not fear the wicked and the wealthy because, though they win in this life, they lose in the end. God’s people can reject fear and walk in confidence because we know that the righteous one wins in the end.
