Hey friends! We recently made our first ever pickup from Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle TN and WOW! I knew this new partnership would make a difference but I had no real idea of the possibilities!
From just that first pickup we were able to provide 10 substantial food supplement boxes to our friends who live inside but who deal with extreme food insecurity. Each box included protein (frozen chicken legs we got for free, 100lbs!) and other necessary meal staples. We have plans to also create a standard food box option for our friends dealing with homelessness who do not have the ability to cook in a traditional sense. Also, we have many options from that first pickup for our all our Loads of Love meals in September, we may not need the grocery store at all this month!
With this partnership in place we have a real opportunity now to build up an abundant food pantry for our friends. This will be especially helpful as we are heading into colder months which often means less work opportunities.
We need help though. We need additional funding that allows us to purchase the low cost food available each week. We need additional freezer and refrigerator space. We need additional shelving. We need volunteers with muscle like Ean and Matthew who will help with pickup and unloading (its a physical ministry to feed people!)
So anyway, I just wanted to share a little bit of my excitement (we LOVE to feed people), and anxiety (this means we need additional funding and volunteers for specific food pantry purchases and tasks).
