Sisters of St. Joseph of Baden and others gathered in Pittsburgh this morning for the weekly vigil in front of the ICE building where they offered prayers in remembrance of those who died on 9/11 and lifted up those impacted by the intersecting issues of xenophobia and migration.

They read an excerpt from a message by Bishop Stowe: In the face of violence and despair, our belief in the message of the Resurrection compels us to act with justice and compassion. As Catholic people whose faith by its name is universal, we must unceasingly uphold the dignity and value of all human beings. (NCR Online, 25 years after 9/11)

The vigil concluded with words from a representative of Casa San José who is working directly with families who are living in fear of militarized immigration enforcement. Please keep them in prayer, especially as the ministry prepares to open a new outreach center.

The International Centre is hosting the Mission Alive program this week. Here they are at the Origin & Evolution Centre of the Lyon Congregation posing with a sculpture of Mother St John Fontbonne. The 13 participants hail from Brazil, Canada, Denmark, and USA. Sr Dolores Clerico (Philadelphia) is the presenter. Translators include Sr Joana Mendes (Rochester-Brazil) and Sr Pratha (Lyon-India).

This Labor Day, we honor those whose organizing and advocacy affirm human dignity and secure workplace protections. We pray for those who have been injured on the job, treated unfairly, and subjected to inhumane conditions. We act for labor justice.

Twenty-two sisters from Africa, India, and France joined Sr. Marie Heckman (Institute St. Joseph--France) who presented a program on the Eucharistic Letter August 17-23 at the International Centre. The program was a pilot and will be offered next August.

The candlelight procession in Le Puy on the eve of the Assumption was spectacular!
