Blessed be the Lord, my rock,
who trains my hands for war, and my fingers for battle;

my shield, in whom I take refuge,
who subdues the peoples under me.
O Lord, what are human beings that you regard them,
or mortals that you think of them?
They are like a breath;
their days are like a passing shadow.

Prayer of the Day
Immortal God, as the seasons change around us, remind us that you are beyond time. While our days may be like a blink of your eye, these years are precious to us. Thank you for the gift of life. Amen

Scripture of the Day: Matthew 21:42-46
Jesus said to [the chief priests and the elders], “Have you never read in the scriptures:

‘The stone that the builders rejected
has become the cornerstone;
this was the Lord’s doing,
and it is amazing in our eyes’?

Therefore, I tell you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people that produces the fruits of the kingdom. The one who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces; and it will crush anyone on whom it falls.”
When the chief priests and the Pharisees heard his parables, they realized that he was speaking about them. They wanted to arrest him, but they feared the crowds, because they regarded him as a prophet.

Prayer of the Day
Beloved God, from you come all things that are good. Lead us by the inspiration of your Spirit to know those things that are right, and by your merciful guidance, help us to do them, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen

The word of the Lord is to them an object of scorn; they take no pleasure in it.

Prayer of the Day
God of forgiveness, we haven’t always been faithful. Forgive us for the ways that our actions, words, and thoughts have hurt others and hurt ourselves. Help us to grow in your grace each day. Amen

Scripture of the Day: Philippians 2:14-18
Do all things without murmuring and arguing, so that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, in which you shine like stars in the world. It is by your holding fast to the word of life that I can boast on the day of Christ that I did not run in vain or labor in vain. But even if I am being poured out as a libation over the sacrifice and the offering of your faith, I am glad and rejoice with all of you— and in the same way you also must be glad and rejoice with me.

Prayer of the Day
Gracious God, rejoicing can be hard amid the chaos of daily life. Even if just for a breath, help us to feel your joy and hope each day. You are with us, and for this we can give thanks. Amen

Holy God, sometimes it feels like we have lost each other. Bring us back into your community. Remind us of all the ways you have been steadfast throughout our lives. Renew our faith. Amen

Then Samson called to the Lord and said, “Lord God, remember me and strengthen me only this once, O God, so that with this one act of revenge I may pay back the Philistines for my two eyes.” And Samson grasped the two middle pillars on which the house rested, and he leaned his weight against them, his right hand on the one and his left hand on the other. Then Samson said, “Let me die with the Philistines.” He strained with all his might; and the house fell on the lords and all the people who were in it. So those he killed at his death were more than those he had killed during his life. Then his brothers and all his family came down and took him and brought him up and buried him between Zorah and Eshtaol in the tomb of his father Manoah. He had judged Israel for twenty years.

Cosmic God, nothing can compare to you. You provided the breath of life at creation. May we always cling to Jesus, in whom we find companionship, lifegiving grace, and salvation. Amen

Scripture of the Day: Revelation 12:7-9
And war broke out in heaven; Michael and his angels fought against the dragon. The dragon and his angels fought back, but they were defeated, and there was no longer any place for them in heaven. The great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the Devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world—he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him.

Prayer of the Day
Everlasting God, you have wonderfully established the ministries of angels and mortals. Mercifully grant that as Michael and the angles contend against the cosmic forces of evil, so by your direction they may help and defend us here on earth, through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God whom we worship and praise with angels and archangels and all the company of heaven, now and forever . Amen
