Join Bishop Schuster and Catholics from around the archdiocese for this festive, colorful and prayerful Advent celebration in the Jubilee Year. This Filipino tradition ushers in Simbang Gabi, a novena of nine Masses meant to honor the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Simbang Gabi, or “night Mass,” began during the early days of Spanish rule over the Philippines. The Masses were offered in the evening after the farmers had put in long, hot days in the fields. Though exhausted, they came anyway.

Star of the Sea Church will be hosting a viewing of a first class relic of Blessed Carlo Acutis on Friday, July 4th.

Archbishop Domenico Sorrentino of Assisi will celebrate the 9:00am Mass, followed by a conference.
Afterward, the relic will be available for public veneration.

Blessed Carlo Acutis, the first millennial to be beatified, was an Italian teen with an expertise in computer programming and website design. He used his talents to create a website that documented Eucharistic miracles and approved Marian apparitions. His mission in life was to use his skills for the glory of God and to spread his love of the Blessed Sacrament to all.

Bl. Carlo Acutis is scheduled to be canonized on September 7, 2025 alongside Bl. Pier Giorgio Frassati.
