This Sunday we celebrate the beautiful picture of baptism - God’s declaration that in Christ, the old is gone and new life has begun. It’s a reminder that the gospel is not about self-improvement, but about being united with Jesus in His death and resurrection.

Whether you’ve followed Christ for years or are still asking what faith really means, baptism points us to the same hope: grace that makes us new. We’ll rejoice together in what God has done and continues to do in transforming lives by His Word and Spirit.

A few ways to show up well this Sunday:

1. Pray this week for those stepping into the water. You don't need to know their names — God does.

2. Bring someone. This is one of the best Sundays to invite a friend or neighbor.

3. Arrive ready to celebrate. Your presence and your joy are a gift to them.

Let's fix our eyes on Christ and celebrate the new life He gives!

Yesterday we walked through the moment when Jesus was confronted with a loaded question about taxes from Matthew 22 – a trap designed to destroy His credibility. Instead, He exposed hearts and clarified who really owns our lives.

Key idea: You can tell who has the ultimate claim on your life.

1️⃣ Watch what pressures you - The Pharisees weren’t seeking truth; they were protecting image and control. When God’s Word convicts you, do you repent…or start explaining, spinning, and reframing?

Not every “either/or” question the world gives you is valid. Faithfulness asks, “What will honor the Lord here?” - even when your voice shakes.

2️⃣ Look at what/who defines you - Jesus exposed their hypocrisy with a simple coin. They claimed to hate Rome, but they carried Rome’s money.

What you “carry” and depend on shows what already has a claim on you—comfort, approval, money, success, politics, etc.

If you belong to Christ, His image defines you. Your worth isn’t tied to performance, reputation, or public opinion. You’re free to obey because your life already belongs to Him.

3️⃣ Notice what you obey when it matters - “Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”

Earthly authorities have a place, but only God has ultimate authority. The real test isn’t what we say on Sunday, but what we obey when it costs us - comfort, opportunity, relationships, or reputation.

Being impressed by Jesus is not the same as submitting to Jesus.

🔁 The question that lingers long after the coin is gone: Who really claims your life?

May we give the world what is right and responsible - and give to God what already bears His image: our whole selves.

In Matthew 22:15–22, Jesus was confronted with a question about taxes, but He exposed something much deeper. The religious leaders carried Caesar’s coin while claiming loyalty to God. Jesus revealed this truth: what you carry often reveals what already has a claim on you.

We do the same. We can criticize the very things we quietly trust—success, approval, comfort, control, performance. But you were not made in the image of the world. You were created in the image of God.

This Sunday, we’ll look at what it means to truly “render to God” what already belongs to Him—our whole lives.

Sunday Recap | Matthew 20:20–28

Yesterday we gathered around one of the most upside-down and beautiful teachings of Jesus in Matthew 20:20–28. While the disciples were thinking about position and greatness, Jesus redirected their hearts toward humility, sacrifice, and service.

In God’s kingdom, greatness doesn’t look like power over others—it looks like laying your life down for others.

A few truths that stayed with us:
- Jesus calls us to serve, not strive for status.
- Humility is not weakness; it’s Christlike strength.
- The Son of Man “came not to be served but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.”

What a powerful reminder that the cross shapes the way we lead, love, and live.

This week’s invitation: Spend time in Matthew 20:20–28 and ask:
- Where am I seeking recognition instead of faithfulness?
- How can I reflect the servant heart of Jesus this week?

Take one intentional step toward humble service—encourage someone quietly, meet a need without recognition, or put someone else before yourself in a practical way.

As a church family, let’s continue building a culture that values servanthood over spotlight and faithfulness over applause.

Looking ahead: Next Sunday we’ll continue in Matthew with Matthew 22:15–22, where Jesus responds to a difficult question about earthly authority and ultimate allegiance. It’s a timely passage that reminds us to give to Caesar what is Caesar’s—and to God what belongs to God.

Grateful for a church family that keeps growing together in grace, humility, and love. Let’s keep our eyes on Jesus, the Servant King, making Christ known near and far!

This Sunday we’ll see how Jesus reshapes our understanding of greatness in Matthew 20. In a world that measures significance by status, power, and recognition, Christ calls us to the better way of humble, sacrificial service.

Jesus reminds us that “the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.” His kingdom is not built on self-promotion, but on grace-filled surrender and love for others.

Whether you come encouraged, weary, searching, or simply needing to be reminded of the hope of the Gospel, there is a place for you here. Join us this Sunday as we worship together, sit under God’s Word, and look again to our Servant King.
