1 Timothy 3:1–7 // The Second Trustworthy Saying // Taylor Callen

Why does Paul call the desire to be an overseer a “trustworthy saying”? Because pastors are entrusted with preaching and protecting the gospel: “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners.”

In 1 Timothy 3:1–7, Paul shows us what kind of men should shepherd Christ’s church—men who desire the work, live as examples worth following, shepherd their homes well, are tested by time, and are respected by outsiders. This passage calls churches to pray for qualified pastors, pursue godliness together, and look ultimately to Jesus, the Chief Shepherd who never fails His people.

Tonight at 4pm we'll be continuing our study through the mountains of the Bible as we look at Psalms 15-24 and ask, "Who shall ascend the mountain of the Lord?" And this Sunday we'll be continuing our series through 1 Timothy. All are welcome

1 Timothy 2:8-15 // And She Will Be Saved Through Childbearing // Taylor Callen

In one of the most controversial passages in the New Testament, Paul reveals something our culture desperately needs to hear: God’s design for men and women is not arbitrary, oppressive, or outdated—it is good. In this sermon, we explore biblical masculinity and femininity, the distortion of God’s design through sin, and the hope of redemption through Jesus Christ, the promised offspring born of woman who came to crush the serpent.

John 13:1-17 // The King’s Love Displayed and Commissioned // Hunter Allison

This past Sunday, we had the privilege of welcoming Hunter Allison to preach. Hunter is a deacon at Redeemer Reformed Presbyterian Church and has been a longtime friend of HBC. It was a joy and encouragement to have him open God’s Word for our church family.

In John 13:1-17, Hunter walked us through the incredible scene of Jesus washing His disciples’ feet on the night before His crucifixion. Even knowing betrayal, suffering, and the cross were directly in front of Him, Christ continued to love and serve His people to the very end.

1 Timothy 2:1-7 // Prayer, Peace, and the Case Against Christian Nationalism // Taylor Callen

What is the mission of the church in a politically divided world? In 1 Timothy 2:1-7, Paul calls Christians not to panic, rage, or place their hope in political power, but to pray for all people because Christ is the one mediator for all people and the Gospel must go to all people. Join us as we explore why the church’s mission is not to build a Christian empire, but to peacefully proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the nations.

1 Timothy 1:12-20 // The First Trustworthy Saying // Taylor Callen

What do you do when people walk away from the faith? How can someone who once seemed sincere drift into false teaching, shipwreck their life, or completely abandon Christianity altogether?

In 1 Timothy 1:12-20, Paul reminds Timothy that the gospel is not for perfect people, but for sinners in desperate need of mercy. Paul points to his own story as proof that Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners… and that no one is beyond the reach of His grace.

This passage confronts the reality of false teaching, spiritual drift, and deconstruction, while also holding out the hope of the gospel to weary believers, struggling Christians, and hardened sinners alike. The mercy that saved Paul is still powerful enough to save today.

1 Timothy 1:8–11 // The Law and the Gospel // Taylor Callen

“God expected too much of me.”

Have you ever felt that way? In this passage, we discover that God’s commands are not the problem, but misunderstanding them is. When used wrongly, they burden us or get ignored. But when used rightly, they reveal our need for Jesus and lead us into true life.
