Please read 2 Kings 4:1-7, KJV.
“Now there cried a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets unto Elisha, saying, ‘Thy servant my husband is dead; and thou knowest that thy servant did fear the Lord: and the creditor is come to take unto him my two sons to be bondmen.’ And Elisha said unto her, ‘What shall I do for thee? Tell me, what has thou in the house?’” (2 Kings 4:1-2a, KJV)
This passage of scripture concerns a woman in a desperate situation. She did not have the finances to pay her debts. When she presented her need to the prophet, he asked her two questions and then gave her instructions. As I read this setting of scripture and began to think of the parallels in the New Testament, I became excited about what I saw. First, we see that the prophet asked her, “What shall I do for thee?” I was reminded of Christ meeting two blind men and asking them the same question. I believe that He asks us the same question regarding the needs of our lives. Jesus will take control of the situations in our lives when we invite Him, just as the disciples did in a boat, in the midst of a storm. Jesus did not come to their aid until they went and woke Him. It was then that He walked to the front of the boat and spoke peace in the midst of the storm. In life, when we come to the end of our abilities, we are at a great place in God because there we find ourselves at the beginning of His provisions.
Jesus is not in a panic over our situations; He patiently waits for us to invite Him in. May we be reminded that we have need of rest in the providence of God. Call on Him today for all your life's issues. He is faithful.
