New Life Christian Church

New Life Christian Church New Life Christian Church is an independent body of believers who pattern themselves after the church presented in the bible. in Valrico.

We have no creed but Christ, no book but the Bible and wear no name but Christian. The Bible is the center of all we preach. New Life Christian Church has sold their property at 1520 S Miller Rd and purchased 3.47 acres on Hans Rd and SR 60. During this transition time (as we build our new building on Hans Rd & SR 60), NLCC is meeting at the Brandon Funeral Home 106 Rolling Hills Blvd. We have a b

It's becoming way too easy for me to get frustrated and impatient in today's culture. And that's not a good thing. It's why we must build into our week good things which keep us focused on the incredible mission God has put His church on (in the communities in which we live). It's why I need our Wednesday night Bible study at 6:30 pm. To rest in God's Word. To let God's Word wash over me. To be reenergized and reequipped. To be encouraged and to encourage others with it. That's the wonderful power of God's Word. Yet, I still need to renew that commitment (often). It's why I like claiming or praying through Scripture. For instance, Psalm 119:15-16 - "I will meditate on Your precepts and regard Your ways. I shall delight in Your statutes; I shall not forget Your word." Tonight at 6:30 pm we dedicate some quality time to think about and ponder the beauty of God's Word. To more deeply look at it and let it cleanse our lives. So that God's Word can be a delight and not drudgery. So that God's Word will never be forgotten but can continue to be a guiding Light to life and ministry. You are always invited to come along.

It was Sunday morning, and I was excited to get up on that mountain to preach. It was the early 2000's and I was on a mission trip in Haiti. I was so excited that morning, I didn't eat much and worse, I barely drank any water. It was already extremely humid and so about halfway up the mountain, my energy levels bottomed out and I became very weak. It's one of few times in my life I really thought I was going to pass out. If not for the young man guiding me up the mountain to my destination, I wouldn't have made it. He helped to steady me until we got there, and I could rest, eat a little, and drink the proper amounts of water I so desperately needed. One of the encouragements in 1 Thessalonians 5:14 is for us to "help the weak". This literally means to "hold fast to the weak" or "don't let them fall." So much in this world comes at us in such forceful ways that we (at times) become spiritually vulnerable. I'm thankful for those who supported me when I was weak. I'm thankful for the times I've been able to help others in their time of need. May we live out Galatians 6:2, where it reminds us to, "Bear one another's burdens, and thereby fulfill the law of Christ."

Today we remember (memorialize) those who have served our country in the most profound way (by giving the ultimate sacrifice). They gave their lives for us to be free. I am grateful for this freedom because it allowed me to be able to preach the good news of Jesus yesterday. I never want to take this for granted. And yet, I am even more thankful for the freedom we can only have in Christ Jesus. Titus 2:14 reminds us that Jesus "gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds." Jesus willingly sacrificed His life on the cross to purchase our release from the bo***ge and captivity of sin. His death wasn't only for a select group of people or a country ("For God so loved the world..."). Jesus also died to set us apart as His people, who He could use for His ministry of redeeming the world. Today I'm thankful for the many freedoms I have but especially those I can only have in Jesus. Thank you!

Earlier this week, I encouraged you to encourage others this week. Now I want to get a little more specific. One of Paul's encouragements in 1Thessalonians 5:14 is for us to "encourage the fainthearted". I'm fairly certain we don't use fainthearted very much anymore. I can't even remember the last time I heard someone use the word in the sentence. It could be translated, "fretful, worried, or discouraged." That we are to bring some courage and comfort to those who are struggling to have some. What causes discouragement? What brings worry into people's lives? I don't have enough time and space to list the many things that I could. What causes you discouragement? Every one of us experiences it. It's why we need other Christian brothers and sisters in our lives to encourage us when we get this way and feel like giving up or doing the wrong thing. Who in your life is really discouraged today? What could you do to build them up in the Lord? When I was ministering in Kansas, I had a wonderful man randomly show up at my office just to pray with me. It was always at the time I needed it the most and was too stubborn to ask for it. It was the right kind of encouragement at the right time. Let God use you to encourage someone today in some way.

One of the earliest pieces of Scripture I memorized came from 2 Timothy 2:15 (at least the first part and in the King James) - "Study to shew thyself approved unto God...". I'm pretty sure it was at church camp. Back in those days you memorized Scripture for points. If your camp family had the most points at the end of the week you got an ice cream party. From the earliest parts of my Christian walk, I learned the importance of Bible study. The apostle Paul was encouraging this young preacher (Timothy) to "Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth" (NASB). I learned I needed to be "eager" and "earnest" in studying God's Word. To not only put in the work necessary to understand God's will for life and for His church, but also to approach God's Holy Word with a godly and humble attitude. If I think I know everything (or most everything) I won't learn anything. I learned it's good for God to test me in His Word (because I'll come out stronger and more refined). I learned to never be ashamed of God's Word by consistently, correctly, and rightly handling God's Word by putting it into daily practice. It's why I love Wednesday nights. We have a Bible study every Wednesday night at 6:30 pm. It gives us some quality time to come out of this world (and whatever is going on in our lives) to be challenged and lifted high by God's truth.

Do people ever identify you as a peacemaker or someone who is at peace and spreads it around? One of Paul's encouragements at the end of 1 Thessalonians 5 sounds almost impossible into today's culture. The second part of verse 13 says, "Live in peace with one another." This was written to the church, meaning that some of the Believers were having trouble with this one. They needed to cease all hostilities and put away the weapons (whatever they may be). If Believers aren't getting along, what hope do we have of sowing the seeds of the gospel of peace in the world. We need to be bridge-builders, or as Romans 14:19 puts it, "So then we pursue the things which make for peace and the building up of one another." Today, who do you need to make peace with? What bridge needs to be rebuilt? Start praying to the God of peace for His peace and wisdom to do this.

I'm enamored with lists. Like "top ten" lists or any kind of count down. It's probably why I like any kind of list in the Bible. I'm thinking "fruits of the Spirit" or how love is described in 1 Corinthians 13. The Apostle Paul especially does this kind of thing towards the end of his letters to the church. A rapid succession of encouragements for the church to do, that I think helps them in their daily walk with Jesus. For instance, the end of Paul's first letter to church in Thessalonica. Verse 11 says, "Therefore encourage one another and build up one another, just as you are also doing." What if we each took Monday through Friday (this week) to pick one Christian brother or sister or family and encouraged them and build them up in some way every day. It could be a note, text, call or a visit. You could share some Scripture with them or let them know they were missed. You could ask them if you could pray with them. Or really any way God puts on your heart. Can you imagine just how much better this week could be if we all did this.

What do you do to turn it all around? You're having one of "those days". It feels like everything and everyone is against you (though that's never fully true). You are discouraged and feel like giving up or just not caring as much anymore. What do you do? I think it's a great opportunity to renew our trust in God and His Word. David (in Psalm 13) is having a bad day and if you stopped reading at those first couple of verses, it seems like he'd give up. Yet, by the time you get to verses 5-6 David says, "But I have trusted in Your lovingkindness; my heart shall rejoice in Your salvation. I will sing to the Lord, because He has dealt bountifully with me." David gives us three truths we can hold on to. First, we can trust in God's amazing love. His love is constant, even when we forget. Second, we can rejoice in God's salvation. I'm still amazed at the incredible overflow of joy that comes from trusting God through it all and knowing He rescues us from sin. Third, we can keep on praising God. That's because He is generous, gracious, forgiving, merciful, loving, kind, and really, really patient with us. It's not nearly as difficult to turn things around when we stay turned to God and His Word.

It's Wednesday or what we typically refer to as mid-week and sometimes "hump day". As if this day is a drudgery and we just want it to be over, so we get closer to the weekend. For me, it's a wonderful day because of what we get to do tonight. Every Wednesday night at 6:30 pm (in our chapel), we have a mid-week Bible study. We've been studying Ephesians 6:10-20 and being equipped with God's armor to fight life's battles and come out victorious. It gives us a great respite so that we can recharge our "batteries" for the rest of the week and even help us get ready for Sunday. I love being around God's people and encouraging each other in His Word. This door is always open to you too.

What's your favorite part of a rollercoaster ride? For some it's that first lift hill and decent. For others, they love going upside down (getting as many G-forces as possible). For me, it's the end of the ride because I'm not as fond of rollercoasters as I used to be. Here's the thing, you have to go through all those other things in order to get to the finish. In Psalm 13, David (in those first two verses) lets us know how he feels. For him to get through his current ordeal, there needed to be a transition. To get away from what he thought and be moved to where he needed to be. When he felt desperate, he knew he could turn to God. Psalm 13:3-4 says, "Consider and answer me, O Lord my God; enlighten my eyes, or I will sleep the sleep of death, and my enemy will say, 'I have overcome him,' and my adversaries will rejoice when I am shaken." Even though God felt far off (though He never was), David still knew he could turn to God for help. Even though David was wrong in his assessments, God was still patiently waiting and ready to listen. David then asked for God's presence and His Light to shine on him. The worst thing we can do in dire situations is to turn inward or to look to all the wrong things. Instead, we need to (like David) turn to God and trust Him with everything. Today, what do you need to ask God for? Today, what do you need to let His Light shine on?
