Sister Frances Swaggart gives a sensible, balanced approach to Halloween and Fall Festival alternatives. We invite you and your family to join us at Happy Gospel Church Bradenton tonight from 6-8:30pm.
Halloween is a struggle for Christian parents because it’s been so commercialized to be a harmless holiday of fun—dress up, treats, and time with friends—all the things that kids love. So is it wrong for Christians to let their kids dress up and take part in trick-or-treating, or go to a fall/harvest festival at church, or to even pass out candy to children that includes a Christian tract or message? We feel that these are questions only you, as a Christian parent, can answer. Most Christians know the dark origin of Halloween as well as any potential dangers involved in letting children go door-to-door, at night, to the homes of strangers. These are evil times we’re living in, and we see more parents taking their children to church activities on October 31. At Family Worship Center, on October 29, we’ll be having Hallelujah Day—an all-day event of food, fun, and church services to give the kids a safe alternative. But if you are a Christian and you want to participate in Halloween, then we’re not going to be critical of you or condemn you for doing so. We don’t encourage it, but we’re not going to tell you what to do because that is a personal decision. Our stance has always been that whether you participate in Halloween or not, we love you just the same.
