Then they were glad that the waters were quiet, and he brought them to their desired haven. Let them thank the Lord for his steadfast love, for his wondrous works to the children of man!
Psalm 107:30-31 ESV
“You’ve got a very strong little boy.”
-Dr. Anderson
McCoy has had two surgeries in three days. He was sick. Blood in the lungs, free air in his abdomen, and a HUGE duct on his heart that was messing everything up. He was sick. He’s off the dopamine. His urine output is good. His blood pressure is good. His head ultrasound looked good. They have weaned him down to the 50s on the ventilator. He WAS sick.
Both boys are still “critical”, and the doctors want to make sure that we know that, but we have had two very good days. McCoy is like a completely new kid after his surgery. Dr. Anderson has told us that his lungs look really bad, but they are improving. Hallelujah! God is so good.
Henry has been off the vent for 48 hours and that is very good. Dr. Simon was encouraged by his performance off the vent, and his head ultrasound also looked great. They are working to get him transferred to St. John’s to be with his brother. We want them to be together, but we sure hate to leave Hillcrest. The care we all have received there has been nothing short of spectacular (I can’t keep using “incredible” to describe things). The team here has encouraged us, prayed with us, checked on us, loved our boys, and genuinely cares. I would love to name them here, but I know that I would miss one and I hate to do that. There have been so many. We love them and are extremely thankful for them all.
Alright then. This update is really short, but that’s what happens when everything is going relatively well. Thank God for short and positive updates! That being said, I want to make sure you get your money’s worth, so we’ll pad the runtime a bit here. If I learned anything when I kind of went to college, it’s how to turn a one page paper into a page and a quarter. 😬
Most you know that we worship with Henryetta First Baptist Church. I say “most” because I recognize maybe half of the names of the people who have liked this page, shared the posts, or commented on them (that’s amazing to me, and I’m thankful for you all). I’m also terrible with names…so that may not mean as much as I think it does. 😂
Anyway, we updated the ladies at the Hospitality House on the boys yesterday. Laurie asked about our other children and wondered who was taking them to school while we are here. Kim explained that we actually homeschool and our last community day was on Friday, so the kids don’t have to worry about getting to school. She recognized “community day” and said that they use Classical Conversations, too! That was a neat connection. She then inquired about our church home. Turns out, her husband has been pastor of Arrow Heights Baptist Church in Broken Arrow and is taking on a new role as regional ministry partner for east-central Oklahoma for the state convention. Andy Taylor. No, not that Andy Taylor, though he is equally kind. Long story short, he asked to meet with us this morning to pray for our boys and our current situation. We ended up being his first meeting in his new role! He was great and even let me interrogate him a bit on some of the issues I see within the SBC. I look forward to seeing how God uses him in in his new position. 🌷
Prayer Points:
-Praise God from Whom all blessings flow! He has done great things and we mustn’t forget to thank Him.
-We’d like for Henry’s bowel issue to be completely resolved (it has been improving), and we hope to have proof that his PDA has completely closed.
-McCoy’s lungs need to continue improving, and we are loving the strength that God is giving him.
-We hope that the conversations that we’ve had with the folks at Hillcrest have been fruitful, and that God will reveal Himself to them and will work in their lives.
Because I don’t think you really understand how great these nurses have been for us, this is what we found on hanging in Henry’s cubicle this morning. Isn’t it the cutest?
Kirk, out.
