My photo shoot for my first ebook-Overdrive.

I had experienced a burnout after a grueling few years. At the time I made the decision to change my diet and exercise regimen. I also integrated fasting, deep sessions in prayer and reading inspirational materials, and slowly built myself back up.

I stumbled across this image today and realize that I have remained pretty consistent over the past 12 years.

Sometimes it is hard to guard against burnout, but if it happens, you have to become intentional about making changes.

Last year an opportunity knocked on my door.

I was invited to be a keynote speaker for four days for a national organization. I was beyond excited, and began to prepare for it in earnest.

Three weeks later, I was informed by a different contact at that company that the opportunity went to someone else.

I was crushed😞

My two choices were: will this increase my capacity and resilience, or decrease me in some way?

The answer to that came from how I chose to interpret my circumstance.

I decided not to waste my prep work for that project, but instead to utilize it for something else in the future.

Eight months later, I was asked to speak for FREE at a large local organization.

I decided to dust off that prep work and present to the audience.

What happened as a result of that free speech was an unexpected surprise.

I secured an amazing client, who was very aligned with my core values, and whose company needed my services.

We signed a one year contract, the worth of which was five times what I would have made for those keynote speeches.

Failing forward or turning lemons into lemonade is always our choice.

We can look at challenges as something that is happening to us, or for us.
