Bethel Memorial, Incorporated

If anyone reading this remembers two young women who came to our Annual Lessons and Carols Candlelight Service back on December 21. They took pictures of some of us and the church, presumably to be used in a write-up or story about Bethel. I haven't heard anything since that day and I was curious to see if anyone here has any insight on this. Was a story published? If so where? I would like to add it to the collection of Bethel Memorabilia I have on the website.

Some of you may remember NPR's All Things Considered did a piece on us back in 2008. I have that one listed as well.

This tiny hymnal is no bigger than a person’s hand, but it contains a wealth of history. Published in 1849, Bethel Hymns is the labor of love of one woman, Mrs. Elizabeth (Kerfoot) Sowers, whose indefatigable faith moved her to write nearly 250 original hymns for use by her local community, the Bethel Baptist Church, located south of Millwood.

Church-goers with children will recognize the scribbles in the back of the hymnal, likely penciled in by a bored little one just learning his or her alphabet for the first time.

Make an appointment with CCHA and come check out the Bethel hymnal, or one of the other hundreds of fascinating objects in our collections!
