As we reflect on Holy Week, we consider what many call Good Friday. The day that Judas betrays his teacher, Jesus is arrested, tried, and crucified. In scripture Jesus tells us that “greater love has no man, than to lay down his life for a friend.” This is exactly wha he did on Good Friday. He laid down his life for his friends. What made Friday Good, was what it means to us today. Read about the events of Good Friday in Matthew 27, Mark 15, Luke 23, and John 18-19.

As we reflect on the events of Holy Week, we see that Thursday was quite busy. Jesus and his disciples would eat their Last Supper, Jesus would wash their feet, and Jesus would pray in the Garden of Gethsemane. Jesus would pray, “O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.” Read about the events of Thursday and the immense love of Jesus for those He created in Matthew 26:17-75

During this Holy Week, we reflect on the events that lead to the betrayal of Jesus. While some believe Judas negotiated on Tuesday, many believe it happened on Wednesday. For this reason, it’s referred to as Spy Wednesday. Beyond this belief, not much else is mentioned to have occurred on Wednesday. Maybe Jesus rested, preparing for what was to come. Maybe the disciples prepared for the Passover feast. We really don’t know. But you can read about Judas negotiating Jesus’s betrayal in Matthew 26:14-16, Mark 14:10-11, and Luke 22:3-6.

As we remember Tuesday of Holy Week, we remember Jesus delivering the
Olivette Discourse (Sermon), and Judas negotiating to betray his Rabbi, Jesus. Some believe Judas negotiation occurred on Wednesday.

The Bible account of Holy Tuesday and the Olivet Discourse is found in Matthew 23:1–36, Mark 12:37b–40, and Luke 20:45–47. Judas negotiating can be read in Matthew 26:14-16.

As we celebrate Holy Week, let’s remember that on Monday, Jesus cleansed the temple and cursed the fig tree. Read more about the events of Holy Week in Matthew 21:12-22, Mark 11:12-19, and Luke 19:45-48.

Matthew 21:13 is a quotation of Isaiah 56:7 and Jeremiah 7:11, both from the Old Testament.
