Bowie church of Christ - Sunday School for Teens

We tackled this question during Sunday School.

A member of the Christians & Atheists Facebook social group wrote…

I asked two simple questions:
1. What objective, independently verifiable evidence demonstrates that your god exists?
2. If you don't have such evidence, what convinced you your god is actually real rather than simply something you believe?

After hundreds of comments, I still haven't received objective evidence as I defined it.
=================================
I believe that most people who ask these questions are NOT seeking understanding but are setting us up to fail so that we Christians will seem to be stupid, ignorant, or naive. I say this because if this same person is on Facebook, there are so many bible tools that will answer your sincere, knowledge-seeking questions.

👉I don't have PHYSICAL proofs that a SPIRITUAL God exists. You don't have PHYSICAL proofs that a SPIRITUAL God doesn't exist. Like you, I have bodies of knowledge that support my beliefs. In a court trial, an attorney can win her case with a preponderance of circumstantial evidence such as forensic evidence, behavioral evidence, motive and opportunity, and a timeline making her case as strong as having a confession.

Here is my evidence, for the one person who really wants to know why I believe in God....

👉My beliefs without using any religion are:
1. The Cosmological Argument (The Argument from Cause)
The Kalam Cosmological Argument: Popularized by William Lane Craig, it follows a
simple syllogism:
1. Everything that begins to exist has a cause.
2. The universe began to exist.
3. Therefore, the universe has a cause.
The Concept: Proponents argue that this "First Cause" must be outside of time, space, and matter; attributes traditionally associated with God.

2. The Teleological Argument (The Argument from Design). The Watchmaker Analogy: Just as finding a watch in a forest implies a watchmaker, the intricate complexity of DNA and biological systems implies an intelligent designer.

3. The Moral Argument. If there is no God, morality is merely a byproduct of evolution or social convention (subjective). However, if things like "torturing the innocent" are objectively wrong regardless of what a culture thinks, there must be a transcendent moral lawgiver.

4. The Ontological Argument. If the greatest possible being exists in our minds, it must also exist in reality, because existing in reality is "greater" than existing only as an idea.

5. The Argument from Personal Experience. One can ask any Christian, may be biased.
Man: I can create a living cell.
God: Yes, but I gave you the intelligence, the recipe, and the ingredients. 😆

👉My beliefs based on the Bible...
I know that God uses His creation for His glory. I just can't complain when I also know that God used His own Son to pay my sin debt to save my soul from eternal punishment.

Do atheists use knowledge to describe your God as non-existent?

Creation is evidence of the power of God. (Romans 1:18-20)

The behavior of the twelve Apostles who discipled under Jesus Christ and still didn't believe that He really was the Son of God, risen from the dead. (Luke 24:15-16; John 20:14-15; John 21:4; Matthew 28:17) These same Apostles were martyred for believing and preaching Jesus Christ as the Son of God. Would eleven men do a 180 change in their lives and then die for a lie?

Some atheists routinely argue on the basis of knowledge of God and knowledge of the Bible, as if my faith is only based on my human knowledge. My faith in God is based on my love for God, my modest knowledge of God, and my modest knowledge of the Bible.

We Christians have already been advised NOT to rely on our own understanding, knowledge, and wisdom. (Proverbs 3:5-6; 1 Corinthians 1:20, 25; 1 Corinthians 3:19-20)

Knowledge, prophecies, and miracles failed to help the Jewish religious leaders understand and recognize Jesus Christ as God. They still handed Jesus over to the Romans to crucify Him. Why do Christians continue to answer the questions of atheists to convince them that there is a God?

My faith in God is primarily (not solely) based on my love for God! (Matthew 22:7-40; 1 Corinthians 13:2, 13)

There is a God! I rest my case with a preponderance of evidence...creation.

Amen?

P.S. - Why am I answering this atheist’s question? To strengthen my love and faith in God to prepare for trials and tribulations.

Bowie church of Christ - baptism

Brothers and sisters,

Sunday, 5.24.2026, we witnessed a baptism. This is a friendly reminder of the parable of the Lost Coin.

And when she finds it, she calls her friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost coin.’ In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.” (Luke 15:9-10)

Please welcome our new brother in Christ, Phillip Glance.

Why would a loving God send people to hell?

The bible attempts to describe what we need to know about God's nature.
God is love. (1 John 4:16)
God is merciful. (2 Peter 3:9)
God is gracious. (Heb 10:4; Gen 15:6)
God is just. (Acts 10:34)
God is wrathful. (Romans 2:5)

Why would a loving God send people to hell? Here's a video clip explaining what I believe answers this question.

Thanks for watching.

Sermon: No Other Gospel

Apostle Paul did his best to warn the first century church against Judaizers, false teachers, preaching angels, and other people who preach a gospel different than that of our Lord Jesus Christ. (Galatians 1:1-10)

There. Is. No. Other. Gospel.

Jeff preached the same warning...listen carefully...

Death Was Arrested!

Apostle Paul is the primary theologian of the resurrection in the New Testament.

👉1. The "Resurrection Chapter" (1 Corinthians 15)
This is the most comprehensive defense and explanation of the resurrection in the entire Bible. Paul addresses those who doubted the physical resurrection of the dead.
The Historical Evidence (v. 3–8).
The Logical Necessity (v. 12–19).
The "Firstfruits" Concept (v. 20–23).
The Resurrected Body (v. 35–44).

👉2. The Spiritual Reality (Romans 6: 4-5; 8-10;)
In Romans, Paul shifts from the future physical resurrection to the present spiritual implications for a believer's life.

👉3. The Ultimate Goal (Philippians 3:10-11; 20-21;)
Paul describes the resurrection not just as a doctrine, but as his primary motivation for living.

👉4. The Order of Events (Thessalonians 4: 13-14)
Paul provides a practical explanation of what happens to those who have already died ("fallen asleep") when Christ returns.

When death was arrested and my life begins!

Hallelujah! Praise God! Amen and amen.

He Lives! I Serve A Risen Saviour!

Apostle Paul wrote...

Now, brothers and sisters, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.

For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance[a]: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, and then to the Twelve.

After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers and sisters at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born. (1 Corinthians 15:1-8)

Resurrection Power!

The resurrection is the cornerstone of the Christian faith. Without it, the New Testament suggests that the religion itself would essentially collapse.

Here are the key verses that explain why this event is considered so significant, categorized by the specific theological impact they describe.

👉1. The Validation of Faith (1 Corinthians 15:14, 17; Romans 1:4)
The most direct explanation comes from the Apostle Paul, who argues that the resurrection is the "linchpin" of Christianity. If Christ didn't rise, the entire belief system is a mistake.

👉2. Victory Over Death and Sin (Romans 6:9; 1 Corinthians 15:55-57)

For Christians, the resurrection proves that Jesus conquered the ultimate human fear—death—and paid the penalty for sin.

👉3. The Guarantee of a Future Resurrection (1 Corinthians 15:20; John 11:25-26)
The resurrection is viewed as a "preview" of what will happen to believers. Because he rose, they believe they will too.

👉4. A New Beginning (Regeneration) (1 Peter 1:3; Romans 6:4)
The resurrection isn't just about the future; it's about a current spiritual transformation.

Amen?

Bowie church of Christ - Sunday School for Teens
During Sunday School for Teens, we answered the question, "Why is Jesus called "first born from the dead?".

This is a classic theological question that hinges on the distinction between "resuscitation" and "resurrection" in the biblical narrative.

👉1. Resuscitation vs. Resurrection
The primary distinction lies in the "end result" for the person involved:

Temporary Return (Resuscitation): Those Jesus raised during his ministry were brought back to their "mortal bodies" to live until they died a physical death again.

Permanent Transformation (Resurrection):** When the New Testament speaks of Jesus as the "Firstborn," it refers to a transition into a "glorified, immortal body" to never die again.

👉2. The Meaning of "Firstborn" (prototokos)
In the Greek context of the New Testament, the term "prototokos"(firstborn) often refers to "status and preeminence" rather than just chronological order.

The Prototype: Jesus is viewed as the "first" because he is the pioneer of a new kind of human existence.

The Legal Heir: In ancient cultures, the firstborn had the rights of inheritance. By calling him the "Firstborn from the dead" (Colossians 1:18), the text suggests he is the head of a new lineage of humanity that is no longer subject to permanent death.

👉3. The "First Fruits" Metaphor
The term "First Fruits" (1 Corinthians 15:20) is an agricultural metaphor rooted in Jewish tradition.

The Guarantee: When a farmer harvested the very first crop (the first fruits), it was a sign that the rest of the harvest was coming.

The Pattern: Because Jesus was raised into an eternal, indestructible body, he serves as the "sample" of what is promised to others.
In short, Jesus is called the "Firstborn" because he was the first to pass "through" death and come out the other side into a state where death was no longer possible, creating a path that the biblical text suggests others will eventually follow.

Amen?

So, wait, is this why Jesus Christ is The Way, The Truth, and The Life? (John 14:6)
