You’re more than invited! We are waiting for you.

Join us tonight as we learn about how to love as Christ loves us.

I don’t know about you, but this is been a rough week for me. I am burnt out, tired, and numb. But tonight, I’m coming to the altar expectant. I am seeking the Lord, seeking my Savior. And I know he will meet me there because he does it week after week. And tonight, I invite you because I know he will meet you too. Let’s run toward the Father together. Let’s fall at the feet of the Savior together.

I’m saving a seat for you tonight.

Share this on your story if you’re open to inviting someone new to sit with you tonight.

Sunday night, Pastor Zach challenged us to have more Sunday morning faith. Our faith is more than the mountaintop experiences where we can feel God so very present. Our faith is maintained and strengthen by the time that we spend in solitude, the time that we spend intimately with our Savior. There is a space for corporate worship and individual worship. We need both.

The better we know Christ, the better we know true love and the better we can love others.

What’s your story? Is it like Peter’s? For those of us “alive in Christ” as Paul would write, we are being made into a holy people, a royal priesthood. We are God’s special possession. We are God’s people. But we need to read this correctly, we don’t want to misunderstand this. If you are chosen, the emphasis is not on what was chosen but who did the choosing. If you are God’s people, the emphasis is not on the people, but on God taking possession of His people. If you have been called out of the darkness, the emphasis is on who brought you into the light. I imagine that when Peter is reflecting on his story, he is focused on “the Messiah, the Christ, the Son of the Living God,” the One who chose him and invited him to “Follow Me.”

A lot of times we tell the Gospel story and end with Jesus' death, with our forgiven sins.
But the story does not end in death, it ends in resurrection! Jesus was called to die and bear the weight of all sin forever, yet in His death, He was resurrected declaring an eternal victory over all things dark and evil. And in our death to ourselves, in taking up our cross, we are invited into this resurrection as well! That is some good news folks! That is the Gospel! We are invited into death, yes, but we are also invited into resurrection. And you can live in that resurrection NOW. How? The same Spirit that resurrected our Savior also lives within YOU. If you have recognized that Jesus is your Lord and Savior, if you have surrendered everything to Him, you have been gifted the Holy Spirit. And now, you get to live in resurrection power! You get to live a resurrection life. So, Lazarus, throw off those grave clothes! You are a new creation! Amen and amen.

This past Sunday evening, we talked about Jesus being the light. We read the controversial story of the woman caught in adultery and brought to Jesus. Given, the story itself is not controversial, rather where it is placed in scripture raises some questions. Most likely, this story was inserted there at a later date. Even if this is the case, most scholars believe that this story did happen and it is important for us to read it, reflect on it. Since it is placed right here, we read that right before Jesus tells the Pharisees that He is the light of the world and that His followers will walk in light, He steps in and saves a woman’s life. But how did he do so? What was being the light in that moment? He protected her when no one else would, he stood up for her and with her, and he sent her off more loved than when she first met Him. Jesus stepped into a dark situation and shined His light into an evil and hopeless moment. It was in His presence that she was safe, it was in His presence that she was shown grace, and it was in His presence that she was sent with the light and love that He so deeply displayed to her.

In the beginning of John’s Gospel, Jesus is described as the Word that was with God and was God. It is in our faithfulness to the written word that the living Word reveals to us who He is and who He calls us to be. However, how we read scripture is important. The scriptures, through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, should convict us, not shame us. Why is this important? Conviction is supposed to call us to something while shame keeps us stuck in what we are not.

Last Sunday, Pastor Zach shared about how Jesus is the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and end.

In Revelation, Jesus says, “I am the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end.” In the beginning, all things were created “good,” and in the end all things will be made good again! The Gospel story is Jesus reconciling all things back to Himself, a mission that began in Genesis 3. And we get to participate in that reconciliation. We get to be a part of the story that begins and ends with “good.”
