Keeping Our Keeping Focal Point! Way back in 1976 when I was at the Law Enforcement Academy (C.L.E.T.A), we spent a lot of time at the shooting range! Was it for fun? Nope It was serious business so that we could be proficient, safe and accurate in our shooting but not just for our safety but for of others and for our liability’s sake as well. One of the first things we learned when aiming at a target was that you need to be focused on what we call a focal point or center mass, the “bull’s eye.” Sadly that is the center of a human being. All throughout the history of the church we have found that many were led astray by being taught by Pastors, human leaders and teachers who have made themselves the focal points of what we now know as modern denominationalism. What is the danger that these authorities or teachers present as they were founders of these groups as they make themselves the focal points? So what does it take to keep Christ as our focal point? We can use Moses as the Old Covenant focal point as the writer of Hebrews did when he wrote that the focal point is changed! God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world. [Heb.1:1-2]. Away from the law of traditions (Moses) to the law of Christ! The teaching of Jesus hasn’t changed in any way shape or form and is the focal point! Why? Because He has “all authority Matthew 28:18, and the focal point is “teaching them to observe all that I commanded you…Matthew 28:20. He is the great Teacher, not to any human teacher but The Teacher and High Priest Therefore, holy brethren, partakers of a heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the Apostle and High Priest of our confession; [Heb.3:1]. Jesus the One with all authority must always be our “center mass” where our hearts are to be our focal point in all things. God bless, Dave Howard Boulder church of Christ
