Keeping Our Keeping Focal Point! Way back in 1976 when I was at the Law Enforcement Academy (C.L.E.T.A), we spent a lot of time at the shooting range! Was it for fun? Nope It was serious business so that we could be proficient, safe and accurate in our shooting but not just for our safety but for of others and for our liability’s sake as well. One of the first things we learned when aiming at a target was that you need to be focused on what we call a focal point or center mass, the “bull’s eye.” Sadly that is the center of a human being. All throughout the history of the church we have found that many were led astray by being taught by Pastors, human leaders and teachers who have made themselves the focal points of what we now know as modern denominationalism. What is the danger that these authorities or teachers present as they were founders of these groups as they make themselves the focal points? So what does it take to keep Christ as our focal point? We can use Moses as the Old Covenant focal point as the writer of Hebrews did when he wrote that the focal point is changed! God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world. [Heb.1:1-2]. Away from the law of traditions (Moses) to the law of Christ! The teaching of Jesus hasn’t changed in any way shape or form and is the focal point! Why? Because He has “all authority Matthew 28:18, and the focal point is “teaching them to observe all that I commanded you…Matthew 28:20. He is the great Teacher, not to any human teacher but The Teacher and High Priest Therefore, holy brethren, partakers of a heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the Apostle and High Priest of our confession; [Heb.3:1]. Jesus the One with all authority must always be our “center mass” where our hearts are to be our focal point in all things. God bless, Dave Howard Boulder church of Christ

Why They Want To Destroy Christianity!
Those who worship God and Christ are under
extreme persecution today. Why? Because we
and all who profess to worship Christ and His
teachings will not conform, for the most part, to
their sinful behavior, hatred and desires. Know
this first of all, that in the last days mockers
will come with their mocking, following after
their own lusts, and saying, "Where is the
promise of His coming?" [2 Pe.3:3-4a]. There is
more than just mocking going on today but
actual persecution of denominations of every
stripe even some of our own congregations, all
done by not only these evil sinful people but,
also the government. Why? "If the world hates
you, you know that it has hated Me before it
hated you. "If you were of the world, the world
would love its own; but because you are not of
the world, but I chose you out of the world,
because of this the world hates you. [John
15:18-19]. Yes, we believe in our great Creator
who made us in His image and we worship
Him and they have a problem with that. Why?
God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female
He created them. [Genesis 1:27]. What? We
were all created male and female not any other
human invented nightmare? You know what?
This is a satanic cult brought about by true hatred, for humanity. Why? And just as they did
not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God
gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those
things which are not proper, being filled with
all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil;
full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice; they
are gossips, slanderers, haters of God, insolent,
arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, without understanding, untrustworthy, unloving, unmerciful; [Ro.1:28-31].
Yes, That is it! Don’t despair but please stay
firm in the faith. God bless, Dave

Are Religious Traditions Dangerous?
Do religious traditions do harm? I came from a family centered between Catholic and Protestant traditions which has given me an unbiased observation.
One thing about it, they are both the same when it
comes to religious traditions all developed by men.
They are steeped in “Chris-easter traditions” all developed around what we know as traditions that go
way back to a “superstitious” pagan past not to the
church established on Pentecost. There is nothing
wrong with celebrations of spring time, as long as
we don’t allow it to become goddess worship (Ishtar,
Astarte and collections of other Anglo/Norse derivates all eventually pronounced Easter, or even any
type of religious worship of the “sun” or any other
created things that will take away from our weekly
worship of God & Christ by His memorial the Lord’s
supper. Over the years I learned that there are other
traditions both Catholic and Protestant, that are nothing more then just that, traditions like existence of a
clergy! The Apostle Peter, whom so many have credited with being the first Pope of the “Holy Priesthood
a false teaching of Apostolic succession! In his Holy
Spirit authored scripture: But you are a chosen race,
a royal priesthood, a holy NATION, a people for
God's own possession, so that you may proclaim the
excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;[1 Peter 2:9] If you
were entered into the Kingdom of Christ through the
obedience to His gospel, you became a “holy priest”!
No need for anyone anywhere to be your priest, confessor, guide or someone to look up to, to glorify by
calling him father. Jesus had a problem with that!
"Do not call anyone on earth your father; for One is
your Father, He who is in heaven. [Mat.23:9]. As
faithful disciples of Christ we are placed on equal
ground with the other brothers and sisters: There is
neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free
man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all
one in Christ Jesus. [Gal.3:28]. Why don’t we need a
human priest? Paul wrote: For there is one God, and
one mediator also between God and men, the man
Christ Jesus,[1 Tim. 2:5]. We are equal priests by
our Mediator& High Priest Christ. Dave

NUCLEAR WAR!?
Everybody is talking about Nuclear war again
as our world seems to be spinning out of control. It may not be quite what we think it is.
Webster says the word nuclear simply is a biological term meaning something with a nucleus.
Simplistic but the fact is there has been a nuclear war going on since the beginning of life
on earth. The terrifying war is unending and no
one is immune from it! Paul writes of it, Galatians 5:16-18, and if we disciples of Jesus are
not careful we can be eaten up by it. But if you
bite and devour one another, take care that you
are not consumed by one another [Gal.5:15].
Who are these two countries and do we have
protection from the evil war? The combats: For
the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and
the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another [Gal.5:17a]. Although
all humans have a spirit, the nucleus of humans
as the image of God from creation but we obedient Christians nucleus is the Holy Spirit. So
what does it all means? That we are at war and
are drafted into either one army or the other.
There is no way out! The whole world is in
danger which explains why there is so much
selfishness, hatred and sin (Gal.5:19
-21). As we
roam through this world, you would think the
other Apostles would have warned us against
the war. Beloved, I urge you as aliens and
strangers to abstain from fleshly lusts which
wage war against the soul [1 Pet.2:11]. Yes,
Peter warned us of the same thing. We can’t be
taken out of the world but we have help: But
the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is
no law. Now those who belong to Christ Jesus
have crucified the flesh with its passions and
desires. Fight on! God bless, Dave

[Mt.5:13]. Why does Jesus call us salt and to be
salt? Salt is a preservative and we must be pre-

more ways then one. It is morally and spiritu-

the only preservative there is against the rotten-
ness of the world! Therefore we should be see-

Time And God
Years ago I baptized a fellow who had been
raised in an evangelical group who believed
that once God created the world, He started
everything in motion then let life go on without any other involvement. Is this true?
David wrote: He rules by His might forever;
His eyes keep watch on the nations; Let not
the rebellious exalt themselves [Psalm 66:7].
Jesus’ disciples agreed: He made known to
us the mystery of His will, according to His
kind intention which He purposed in Him
with a view to an administration suitable to
the fullness of the times, that is, the summing
up of all things in Christ, things in the heavens and things on the earth. In Him [Ep.1:9-
10]. God never intended to allow the world to
run itself even worse to allow foolish humans
to run it! Events happen all the time to prove
that God is still and always was in control.
We have seen so many historical events
where man’s faith in God’s plans have been
threatened by attacks by atheists who desire
to control the world themselves. The great
advent of Darwin’s Theory of Organic Evolution caused the Bible to take a hard hit,
but...at the right time, March of 1947, God
intervened. A young Arab boy was throwing
rocks into a cave after hearing breaking pottery went in. He found a huge collections of
scrolls, ancient fragments in pots. Among
them, the book of Isaiah with prophesies of
Christ’s life written and scientifically dated
at over 100 years before His birth. Did God
withhold His mysteries? No it was the right
time... For while we were still helpless, at
the right time Christ died for the ungodly.
[Ro.5:6]. He came into the world at just the
right time to rescue us when we most needed
it. God bless, Dave

Arguing Just to Be Arguing?
Lately we have been getting more than a few phone calls to the church in Boulder by some pretty aggressive people who question the teaching of the churches of Christ attempting to make arguments opposed to our Biblical teaching. Peter warned against this kind to action and tells us not to be troubled by this intimidation but gives us an action to deal with it: but sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence; [1Pe.3:15]. We must not ever allow them to anger us but to reply in calmness which has always resulted in a hang up. The problem? There have been hordes of street people in the city of Boulder as a major “liberal sanctuary city” in Colorado, who are encouraging some to confront many of the churches no matter the type. We being a small group have had a couple of them come and listen but have not caused any real problems. How do we deal with it? Peter wrote: To sum up, all of you be harmonious, sympathetic, brotherly, kindhearted, and humble in spirit; not returning evil for evil or insult for insult, but giving a blessing instead; for you were called for the very purpose that you might inherit a blessing. [1 Pe.3:8-9]. How do we as preachers respond? I solemnly charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by His appearing and His kingdom: preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction. [2 Tim. 4:1-2]. Focus on what Christ called us to do, seek and save those who are lost. PKeep being encouraged. God bless, Dave

The Great Paradox!
What kind of a world are we living in today?
Up is down, down is up, good is evil and evil
is good. We are living in a world of contradictions socially, politically and even religiously. People seem to see everything in a
total contradictory way and it is very sad.
Why sad? It prevents all those folks who are
trying to find peace and joy in the world from
finding it. What is it that blocks that great gift
of peace and joy? Good question, it is found
in another contradiction! Actually it is a
paradox! Jesus brought this great paradox to
we humans who just cannot get past it! What
is a paradox? Webster says: it’s a statement
or group of statements that leads to a contradiction or a situation which if true defies all
logic” what is it? "For whoever wishes to
save his life will lose it; but whoever loses his
life for My sake will find it. [Mt.16:25]. Talk
about a paradox! Save life to lose it? Lose
life to save it? Seriously? It’s a baffling paradox! It is Jesus’ point that His disciples then
and now are expected to do! Losing our life
in order to find it is totally absurd! Paul understood the paradox without question: "I
have been crucified with Christ; and it is no
longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and
the life which I now live in the flesh I live by
faith in the Son of God, who loved me and
gave Himself up for me [Gal.2:20]. How do
we do it? Paul said in Rom.6:4-5...we have
been buried with Him through baptism into
death, so that as Christ was raised from the
dead through the glory of the Father, so we
too might walk in newness of life. For if we
have become united with Him in the likeness
of His death, certainly we shall also be in the
likeness of His resurrection, Not such a paradox after all is it? God bless, Dave

Are We Grateful For Life?
In a world society where life seems so unimportant, su***de, abortion, wars, murders so
common place everywhere it begs the question: Are we truly grateful for our lives? I
remember an older member of the congregation where I preached several years ago,
would always began his prayers “Thank you
Father for giving us one more day to live on
this earth.” Simple and to the point of gratefulness to God for life. Life is our mission
here in the kingdom of Christ, it is the essence of our work and our goal for eternal
life. But in this world it is not the same. So
how can we not be grateful to God for life?
First of all remembering that all of those who
approve of this thievery of life will be given
a response by their creator for their evil
ways: Do not be deceived, God is not
mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he
will also reap [Gal.6:7]. As for us, we have
much life to be grateful for as we strive to
bring for to the knowledge of the truth, we
are bringing them to Christ, the giver of not
only truth, but of life. Jesus said to him, "I
am the way, and the truth, and the life; no
one comes to the Father but through Me.
[Jn14:6]. How can we not rejoice and give
praise to God for life, as we have received
life through our baptism in obedient faith?
But now having been freed from sin and enslaved to God, you derive your benefit, resulting in sanctification, and the outcome,
eternal life [Ro.6:22]. Will we make sacrifice
in praise? Through Him then, let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that
is, the fruit of lips that give thanks to His
name. [Heb.13:15]. We have to always thank
our Father for life as it is especially precious
to Him. God Bless, Dave

Are You Indifferent? Whatever!
We live on this planet "under the sun" in a world of a multi-religious people, some peace loving, some caring, some militant and some who are down right evil! But when speaking of religion as Christians, we are called upon to be tolerant of them all. So what are we to do? It is not a simple question, in fact it is a daunting task. It is amazing to me the lengths that Satan will go through to confuse us. One of his greatest tools is indifference. Webster says "indifference" is: "Having a neutral or unbiased disposition." (this kind of goes along with that tolerance thing doesn't it?) As he continues: "It is being not interested in or concerned about something. It is apathetic; no easily interested or moved. characterized by a lack of active quality." Wow, that sounds a lot like the way our society has gone doesn't it? So what about us in Christ's church? As we work at trying to help people find their way to Christ, the only way to God, (John 14:6) we are amazed at their colossal disinterest in God's truth, His inspired Word. But they are not just disinterested, they will never know the truth because they actually despise it! For this reason God will send upon them a deluding influence wo that they will believe what is false, in order that they all may be judged who did not believe the truth, but took pleasure in wickedness.(2 Thes..2:11-12). Truth is avoided because it is painful! How can one fix it? It takes a revising of the mental attitude, a response to a Greek word metanoia repent, which means a change metamorphosis of the mind (heart) but only if we have discipline to overcome the pain of knowing our sin. It takes truth. You might say "wait a minute Dave, that means we have to hold truth to be more important then self-interest!" That is the whole point, no room for indifference. Do you care? Or are you indifferent? God bless, Dave

Time is Not Ours
As we mourn over the loss of so many young
children at Uvalde elementary school, we try
to keep it all in perspective. How much time
we have depends upon our human understanding of it. You see we are not promised
very much time because it belongs to the One
Who created it. It is God who is outside of
time and space, One who is not three dimensional, not physical and not in any way human. So what is this outside of time? It simply means that God isn’t limited by time or
any qualities related to it ...I am the Alpha
and the Omega, the beginning and the end. I
will give to the one who thirsts from the
spring of the water of life without cost. [Rev.
21:6b ]. Peter explained it to his human readers this way, “with the Lord a day is like a
thousand years, and a thousand years are like
a day [2 Pe. 3:8]. In other words time only
matters to we who are restricted by it, it is
not our friend. Kind of grim? Yes, unless we
do as Christ said above we “drink from the
spring of the water of life Rev.21:6. Once we
understand, that by our obedience to Christ’s
gospel we see what Paul saw: But when this
perishable will have put on the imperishable,
and this mortal will have put on immortality,
then will come about the saying that is written, "Death is swallowed up in victory. "O
DEATH, where is your victory? O DEATH,
WHERE IS YOUR STING?" The sting of
death is sin, and the power of sin is the law;
[1Cor.15:54-56]. No, time is not ours. So
who are we to assume that it is as our creator
already knows the outcome of our trials,
tribulation, joy, and sadness throughout the
time have as we are here in the flesh. The
children are with God. God bless, Dave
