We’ll meet in-person this week at our regular 10:00am - 12:00 noon, Mountain time, this Saturday morning, May 30 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in South Boulder.

After the silent meditation period, we’ll have a guest speaker. Heidi Bourne will give a talk entitled Begin Again: Another Chance to Make Peace with the World.

Heidi Bourne is a meditation teacher in the Insight Meditation tradition and is the founder and guiding teacher of Pacific Mindfulness. She has been teaching since 2005 offering classes, series courses, nature retreats, trauma-informed/sensitive and resiliency-focused professional programs. Heidi is especially interested in the integration of the common sense, accessible and timeless teachings of awareness, ethics, and compassion into the complexity of our everyday lives. She is known for her grounded, down-to-earth humor and presence. Heidi has a background in nursing and over 35 years in small business leadership.

After the regular sangha ends there will be an optional brown bag lunch when we finish take-down after the dharma talk, until 1:00 (you are welcome to come for a shorter time).

Where: depending on weather, either at tables in the meditation room or out on the lawn (bring a lawn chair or blanket)

Bring your own lunch and drinks - we cannot guarantee room in the church fridge so please plan accordingly.

After the silent meditation period, we’ll have a guest speaker. Peter Williams will give a talk entitled We Are the World.

Peter Williams has practiced meditation for 33 years, primarily in the Theravada Buddhist tradition, with practice in the Tibetan tradition as well. He has done more than 44 months of silent retreat. He has taught meditation since 2003. He is trained as a Community Dharma Leader through Spirit Rock Meditation Center. His primary teachers have been Joseph Goldstein, Michelle McDonald, and Guy Armstrong. He is one of the founders of the Rocky Mountain Ecodharma Retreat Center in Ward, CO. He has taught mindfulness to a variety of audiences, from schoolteachers to environmentalists to Colorado justices. Peter also practices as an emotional wellness consultant. In an earlier career he worked as an environmental educator for the Massachusetts Audubon Society, as a consulting ecologist, and as adjunct faculty in the Wildlife Biology Program at the University of Vermont.

After the silent meditation period, we’ll have a guest speaker. Barry Gillespie will give a talk entitled Arrows to Flowers: Learning to Be Non-reactive.

Barry Gillespie was introduced to formal meditation practice in 1978, through the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Ashram. In 2003 he began exploring Theravada Buddhist practice, sitting many long retreats at the Insight Meditation Society in Barre, MA and Spirit Rock in Woodacre, CA. Barry is an affiliated teacher with the Insight Meditation Community of Colorado (IMCC). He teaches in Boulder, in Zoom Land, and at the Rocky Mountain Ecodharma Retreat Center.

After the silent meditation period, we’ll have a guest speaker. David Loy will read from and talk about his new book: Loving the World as Our Body: the nondual path in a dangerous time. David will bring copies of the book for sale.

David Loy (http://www.davidloy.org) is a professor, writer, and Zen teacher in the Sanbo Kyodan tradition of Zen Buddhism. He is a prolific author, whose essays and books have been translated into many languages. His articles regularly appear in the pages of Buddhist magazines, including Tricycle, Lion’s Roar, and Buddhadharma, as well as in a variety of scholarly journals. David’s most recent book is Ecodharma: Buddhist Teachings for the Ecological Crisis (Wisdom publications, 2018). He teaches nationally and internationally on various topics, focusing primarily on the encounter between Buddhism and modernity: what each can learn from the other. He is especially concerned about social and ecological issues.

After the silent meditation period, we’ll have a guest speaker. Donald Rothberg will give a talk entitled Bringing Our Practice to the Current Difficult Times: A Contemporary Eightfold Path.

Donald Rothberg, Ph.D., is on the Teachers Council at Spirit Rock in California, teaches worldwide on insight meditation, lovingkindness, transforming the judgmental mind, mindful communication, and socially engaged Buddhism. He has practiced insight meditation since 1976, and has also received training in Tibetan Dzogchen, psychotherapy, and trauma work. He has helped guide many training programs in socially engaged spirituality and is the author of The Engaged Spiritual Life: A Buddhist Approach to Transforming Ourselves and the World.

After the silent meditation period, we’ll have a guest speaker. Jean Leonard will give a talk entitled Widening the Circle of Sangha.

Jean Leonard, Ph.D. is a licensed psychologist, Buddhist eco-chaplain and mentor, and is honored to currently be in the 4-year teacher training with IMS and Spirit Rock. A meditator since 2003, primarily in the Theravada and Chan Buddhist lineages, she deeply loves the brahmaviharas and Kuan Yin dharmas. She has a passion for ecodharma, women’s sangha building, and practice related to aging, illness and dying.

After the silent meditation period, we’ll have a guest speaker. Chuck Langdon will give a talk entitled Thinking: Descartes to Stream-Entry.

Chuck Langdon leads the Boulder Tuesday evening online Sangha for the Insight Meditation Community of CO. He has been meditating for more than 30 years and has attended more than 50 residential retreats at centers and monasteries throughout the United States and England. He graduated from the two-year Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification Program led by Jack Kornfield & Tara Brach in 2021. He began formally teaching the Dharma in 2017. His teachings have been primarily informed by the Pali Canon and his experience with Theravada teachers, both lay and monastic.
