Vernon Duane Olson
Obituary
Vernon Duane Olson, 86, Sawyer, passed away on Friday, June 11, 2021 at his home.
Vernon was born on October 14, 1934 in Fillmore, ND, the oldest of four born to Oscar and Magda (Sand) Olson. He was raised in the Fillmore area, graduating from Fillmore High School in 1948.
Vernon owned several service stations throughout North Dakota before he settled into a career as a mechanic and upholsterer of automobiles. He also worked for Northland Bus for many years. Vernon was a hard worker who always kept himself busy on one project or another.
Vernon was a very sociable person who loved visiting with friends and strangers. He enjoyed talking and was a great storyteller. Vernon loved the color green, especially avocado green, and working on his many mowers and bicycles. He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Minot.
Vernon is survived by his children; Valerie (Ben) Brooke, Loris Vincent, and Jerrod Boser; grandchildren, Lily Brooke, Tanner Vincent, Tate Vincent, Tristin Vincent, and Taryn Lee; and other extended family.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Howard, Constance, and Betty.
Services will be held Sunday, July 11, 2021 at 3 p.m. at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Minot.

Time a Precious Talent, June 1
So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom. Psalm 90:12. FLB 158.1
Our time belongs to God. Every moment is His, and we are under the most solemn obligation to improve it to His glory. Of no talent He has given will He require a more strict account than of our time. FLB 158.2
The value of time is beyond computation. Christ regarded every moment as precious, and it is thus that we should regard it. Life is too short to be trifled away. We have but a few days of probation in which to prepare for eternity. We have no time to waste, no time to devote to selfish pleasure, no time for the indulgence of sin. It is now that we are to form characters for the future, immortal life. It is now that we are to prepare for the searching judgment. FLB 158.3
The human family have scarcely begun to live when they begin to die.... The man who appreciates time as his working day will fit himself for a mansion and for a life that is immortal. It is well that he was born. We are admonished to redeem the time. But time squandered can never be recovered. We cannot call back even one moment. The only way in which we can redeem our time is by making the most of that which remains, by being co-workers with God in His great plan of redemption.... FLB 158.4
Every moment is freighted with eternal consequences. We are to stand as minute men, ready for service at a moment’s notice. The opportunity that is now ours to speak to some needy soul the word of life may never offer again. God may say to that one, “This night thy soul shall be required of thee,” and through our neglect he may not be ready. (Luke 12:20.) In the great judgment day, how shall we render our account to God? FLB 158.5

If God will, we will be having our combined Minot/Bottineau Church Camp August 14, 2021, at Northern Lights Camping grounds. Scott Timothy will be handling the lodging and booking and you are welcome to contact him for any reservations and more information.

You will be paying for your own lodging and you need to provide your own bedding, towels and toiletries, as well as meals. There will be a Potluck Sabbath noon so come prepared for that, and for Sabbath evening the Church will provide hotdogs.

You are also welcome to come join us just for the Sabbath day.
