There's an expression in the sport of soccer: "going for glory." In short, it means to score some kind of stupendous, spectacular goal, usually leading to your teammates hoisting you on their shoulders and carrying you off the field.
⁣
In other sports, "glory" means something similar: catching the winning touchdown, hitting a grand slam, getting a hole in one. Think big, dramatic, and spectacular.
⁣
But in today's Gospel, Jesus offers us a different image of glory: doing what you have been asked to do. If we apply this to sports, our definition of glorious plays expands, including everything from a basic block in football to a well-executed bounce pass in basketball.
⁣
This is important for us to remember in our spiritual lives. Giving God glory doesn't necessarily mean accomplishing dramatic feats. In fact, focusing on grandiose achievements can actually distract us from seeking true glory: fidelity to God in every moment of the day.
⁣
So, St. Joseph Parish Boston family, let's glorify God today. First by worshiping him at Mass, and then by being faithful to him throughout the rest of the day.

The Divine Mercy Chaplet is a powerful devotion, and some people pray it every day at 3 PM — the hour of Christ's death on the cross. On this World Health Day, we are especially grateful for the Faith Community Nursing ministry, which is "the specialized practice of professional nursing that focuses on the intentional care of the spirit as part of the process of promoting holistic health and preventing or minimizing illness in a faith community.” This ministry truly recognizes the reality that we are body and soul.⁣
