Philoptochos Hosts Luncheon and Book Signing with Anna Prokos in Cranston, RI
Saturday, April 25, 2026

With the blessing of His Eminence Metropolitan Methodios, the Metropolis of Boston Philoptochos hosted a luncheon and book signing on Saturday, April 25, at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Cranston, Rhode Island. The event welcomed a beautiful turnout of guests from across the Metropolis for an afternoon of fellowship centered on faith, family, and tradition. The gathering featured author Anna Prokos and her beloved “Lucky” book series—beautifully written and illustrated children’s books that celebrate Greek Orthodox customs and traditions. Guests enjoyed a reception and book signing, followed by a luncheon and presentation.

The program included a fireside chat with Anna Prokos, led by Co-Chair Anna-Helene Grossomanides, offering an engaging discussion on the inspiration behind the series and the importance of passing down faith and heritage to younger generations. Anna reflected on the origins of the series, beginning with The Lucky Cake, which shares the meaning of the Vasilopita tradition on New Year’s Day. She also highlighted her newest release, The Lucky Trip, published this month, which tells the story of her grandmother’s immigration from Greece to America. In keeping with the Paschal season, Anna read excerpts from The Lucky Egg. When asked to name a favorite among her books, she remarked that it would be like choosing among her children—a response that warmly resonated with the many Philoptochos mothers in attendance.

Jane Kourtis, President of the Metropolis of Boston Philoptochos Board, expressed sincere gratitude to Anna Prokos for her inspiring presentation and to all who attended and supported the event. Appreciation was also extended to the dedicated organizing committee, led by Co-Chairs Anna-Helene Grossomanides and Debra Ciejek, whose efforts made the gathering possible and to the Cranston Philoptochos Chapter for their support in hosting this event at their church. Proceeds from the luncheon will support the ministries of the Metropolis of Boston, strengthening its philanthropic and outreach efforts throughout New England. The Metropolis of Boston Philoptochos Board extends its heartfelt thanks to all donors, sponsors, and guests who contributed to the success of this memorable event.

Part Three: As we continue to receive more submissions, we are blessed to share additional photos from our parishes throughout New England.

Across the Metropolis of Boston, our churches were beautifully adorned for Holy Friday as we prepared to stand before the sacred Epitaphios and commemorate the burial of our Lord. Each Kouvouklion reflected not only beauty and reverence, but the love, devotion, and prayerful offering of our faithful.

We extended our heartfelt gratitude to the Philoptochos women, parishioners, volunteers, and children in every community who worked tirelessly to beautify their churches for these holy services. Your hands helped create spaces of prayer, reflection, and sacred beauty as we journeyed together through Holy Week toward the joy of the Resurrection. May God bless your offering of love and service. OrthodoxFaith GreekOrthodox

Metropolis of Boston Philoptochos Lenten Retreat Brings Renewal and Fellowship to Women of the Metropolis
Saturday, March 28, 2026

60 women from across New England gathered this weekend at the St. Methodios Faith & Heritage Center for the Metropolis of Boston Philoptochos Lenten Retreat—a time of prayer, fellowship, and renewal.

A beautiful highlight was the Akathist Hymn led by Metropolitan Methodios, along with inspiring reflections from Fr. Robert Archon and Dr. Ioana Popa, calling participants to stillness, faith, and spiritual growth.

All departed renewed, strengthened, and prepared to continue their Lenten journey and serve with love.
