The ministry has roots reaching back to 1972. Oasis of Faith Campus Ministries continues a legacy of American Baptist supported ecumenical - all Christians welcomed- campus ministry at UMass Boston. The ministry has roots reaching back to 1974 when it was supported by Boston Cambridge Ministry in Higher Education, 5 international denominations, and the Massachusetts Baptist Foundation for Campus
Ministry, (ABC). By 2013 those organizations suffered economic stress and ceased to actively support this college ministry. Oasis of Faith is a nonprofit recognized in Massachusetts and a 501c3 ( #46-1918392). While the chaplain, Reverend Valeria Schmidt, works as member of Multicultural Student Affairs, she is not employed by UMass Boston. Her salary and program funds are raised from tax deductible donations and gifts to Oasis. These are tough economic times and the presence of a trained, experienced, faithful, committed, welcoming, encouraging Protestant Chaplain is needed more than ever! Your financial help is greatly appreciated and needed!
