Regular Compline (Night Prayer) returns to The Advent this Sunday, May 24 at 9:00 p.m. as a special service; preceded by a lecture, a group of singers will present the earliest polychoral setting of Compline, by Renaissance composer Francesco Santacroce.

Sunday, May 24: Lecture at 8:00 p.m. by Dr. Sam Bradley, Musicologist & The Advent’s Music Administrator | Compline at 9:00 p.m.

About the music: Santacroce and his contemporaries, active in Padua, leave us the earliest securely dateable works written for more than one choir. This setting of Compline may in fact be the earliest surviving polychoral work, one that will receive its first performance since the 16th century at this upcoming service.
