Do you like to sing? The Saint Cecilia Choir is looking for new members beginning this fall 🎵 🍂

🎼 The choir leads congregational singing at the 9:30, 11:30 and 5:00pm liturgies weekly. Weekly rehearsals are on Thursdays from 7-9pm in the sanctuary.

🍁 In addition to singing during the liturgy, the choir will be preparing two choral-orchestral works for Saint Cecilia Day: Antonio Vivaldi’s Gloria and Francesco Durante’s Magnificat as well as music for our annual Festival of Lessons and Carols that takes place in Advent.

🎶 If you’re interested, please contact our director of music Robert Duff to arrange for a vocal hearing!

PBS’s American Masters premiered a new documentary on Tuesday about one of our favorite poets, "Mary Oliver: Saved by the Beauty of the World" 🖋️ ✨ Mary Oliver's work has appeared often in the pages of our bulletin and continues to invite us into wonder and deeper attention to the world around us.

Oliver lived for many years in Provincetown, and the landscape of Cape Cod was a profound presence in her poetry 🌊 🐦‍⬛ Her poems often begin with something ordinary and lead us toward much larger questions: What does it mean to be alive? What will we do with the one life we have?

📖 If Mary Oliver’s poetry has ever spoken to you, discover why her words have meant so much to so many people.

Today we celebrate the feast of Pope Saint Pius X 🙏 ✨ The statue of Pope Saint Pius X resides in the side altar on the east side of the church, now dedicated in his honor.

Pope Pius X (1835-1914) restored Gregorian Chant to prominence over Classical and Baroque music during the liturgy 🎵He was also known for his devotion to Mary and for his pastoral nature.

Check out this week's bulletin to learn more about Pope Saint Pius X, the paintings that adorn the side altar, and Saint Bernard of Clairvaux (whose feast day was on Thursday)!

Today the Church celebrates the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary 🙏 💫 The next time you’re in the church, take a moment to look up and notice our great Assumption window!

🪟 The window was the major architectural feature added during the church’s 1954 renovation and is striking not only for its beauty but for the story it tells.

🌹 Mary is depicted above her empty tomb rising bodily into heaven, with the eleven apostles standing around her.

🌟 Over Mary is a crown of twelve stars, an image drawn from the Book of Revelation: “A great sign appeared in the sky, a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars.”

✨ The dogma of the Assumption celebrates our embodied humanity and reflects our belief that God desires to gather us up, body and soul, and bring us into the fullness of divine life.

Don't forget to look up next time you're here!
