This Sunday is the great Festival of the Reformation. It is a celebration of Luther's great motto: "Grace Alone, Faith Alone, Scripture Alone".

We will worship in person this Sunday at 9AM on 10/25/26 in our church in West Roxbury. It will also be broadcast on Zoom.

Our evening service will be held at 6:30PM at the Covenant Living of Keene NH Performing Arts Center. We will record this service and post it on my YouTube channel on Monday morning.

I have attached our worship bulletin for West Roxbury, with the sermon included, in both Word and .pdf formats.

Gracious Lord, as I prepare for Your Holy day, quiet my heart from every worldly care and turn my thoughts to the things above. Forgive my sins for the sake of Christ, who has taken them upon Himself and given me His righteousness. Renew my longing for Your house, where You feed me with Your Word and strengthen me through Your Sacrament. Knowing that You are my God, who never slumbers nor sleeps, let my sleep be peaceful and guarded by Your angels, that I may rise rejoicing to join Your people in worship and in the gifts of Your salvation. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

The Lord is slow to anger and great in power, and the Lord will by no means clear the guilty. His way is in whirlwind and storm, and the clouds are the dust of His feet. Nahum 1:3

Innocent

The prophet Nahum has a warning for the citizens of Nineveh and for all people: The God of Israel is powerful, moving in whirlwind and storms. Unrepentant sinners will experience His wrath. He is an avenging God, who will not clear the guilty of their sin. Sin will end in death, the penalty God declared in the Garden of Eden. God does not and will not ignore sin. The price must be paid.

Yet also God is slow to anger and rich in mercy. Out of His grace and live for sinners, God sent His Son to pay that price we could not pay. Jesus had no sins of His own for which He deserved to die. He was innocent. He bore our sins and the sins of the whole world in His body on the cross. God will by no means clear the guilty, so our Lord Jesus took that guilt onto Himself. On the cross, He endured the avenging wrath of God against sin. Jesus suffered the penalty of death that we justly deserved for our sin. He took our sin and guilt onto Humself and, in exchange, clothed us in His righteousness. Thanks be to God! For Jesus' sake, God declares us innocent!
