FGC has signed on to an interfaith Statement of Support for Transgender, Intersex, and Nonbinary People. The statement calls for equal rights, safety, an affirmation of the range of genders, and space for people of all genders to fully participation in society.

Part of the statement says: "Our faiths, our theologies, and our practices of prophetic witness call on us to say with one voice to transgender people among us: 'You are holy. You are sacred. We love you. We support you, and we will protect you.'" Today is the Transgender Day of Remembrance, a reminder that protection is critical now more than ever.

Mandla Mandela, the grandson of Nelson Mandela, was among the people arrested on the Sumud Flotilla this month. The Sumud Flotilla is a nonviolent fleet of ships working to break the siege on Gaza. Members of the Flotilla were arrested by Israeli forces. While imprisoned, they faced several kinds of violence.

Democracy Now interviewed some Flotilla activists after they were released from prison. Nkosi Zwelivelile Mandela said: "Whilst many of our comrades were offered opportunity to shower, they ensured that the South African delegation was denied this. But we understood very well why that is so: because we are a nation that dared, through our government, to take apartheid Israel to the International Court of Justice."
