The Election Campaign Practices Committee (ECPC), a committee of the UUA Board, is pleased to announce the creation of a campaign covenant, developed in collaboration with the candidates for Board of Trustees Position #5. The covenant reads:

We, the Candidates for the UUA Board of Trustees Position #5 covenant to:

Respect one another. We commit to speaking thoughtfully, with attention to impact as well as intent. We will not engage in personal attacks, or tear one another down. We recognize that all candidates believe deeply in the potential and promise of Unitarian Universalism, and that we share a common desire for a bright future.

Respect the UUA. We commit to disagree with kindness and clarity when discussing the UUA, Board, staff, and others. We will speak about the election processes and the role we are campaigning for with respect.

Be transparent in our communication. We commit to communicating with one another only in the presence of the ECPC or the Board representative.

Represent ourselves authentically. We commit to presenting ourselves clearly throughout our campaign. We recognize that the words we speak and circulate, and the media we use can have implications about endorsements and relationships, and we will choose our words and media carefully. We will ensure that we have active permission for any images or quotes of UU leaders that we include in campaign materials.

Disrupt Harm as we are able. We commit to at all times model our shared UU values and our collective commitment to anti-oppression. We will encourage the same respectful and thoughtful behavior among those working for our campaigns and among our supporters at large. We will call out/in our supporters if they act outside of this covenant.

Abide by the processes set forth by the UUA. We commit to abiding by the rules, bylaws, and policies set by the UUA for elections. This includes reporting on our campaign finances accurately and on time, and campaigning at General Assembly in accordance with the bylaws and policies.

Find a way forward. We commit to taking accountability if we break this covenant. We will be responsible for our actions and for any repair they require. If we have been injured in the process, we will assume good intent and be open to repair. We will contact the ECPC and Board Representative if we feel at any time that the covenant has been broken.

This covenant will guide our shared commitment to a respectful, open democratic process which will include a Candidate Forum on June 3rd at 7pm EST. We hope to see you all there!

The Award for Distinguished Service to the Cause of Unitarian Universalism is one of the most prestigious awards given by the UUA. Recipients of this award have strengthened the institutions of our Association, clarified our message in extraordinary ways, and exemplified what Unitarian Universalism stands for.

Your UUA Board of Trustees is proud to announce the recipient of the 2026 Award for Distinguished Service to the Cause of Unitarian Universalism: Rev. Dr. Clyde Grubbs.

Rev. Dr. Clyde Grubbs (he/his) has served congregations in Indiana, Quebec, Massachusetts, Texas, Florida, and California over the last thirty years. Clyde and his partner the Rev. Dr. Michelle Walsh also work in a community ministry in the Boston area involving coaching and spiritual direction. Clyde has served on the Unitarian Universalist Ministers Association’s Board. He served three years as an at-large member of the UUA Board of Trustees. Before entering the ministry, Clyde worked as a community and labor organizer. He has worked for peace, justice, and equality since he was in the Unitarian Universalist youth movement, Liberal Religious Youth.

Clyde honors his Native American heritage (Texas Cherokee), which informs his spiritual understanding and practice, and his anti-racist and anti-oppressive commitment. He has spoken extensively on the Doctrine of Discovery and participated in leading the UUA in repudiation. Clyde is active with the United American Indians of New England around efforts to replace Columbus Day with Indigenous Peoples Day and build solidarity with indigenous movements to defend Mother Earth.

Join us in celebrating Rev. Dr. Clyde Grubbs! 🎉
The presentation of the Distinguished Service Award will be held during this year’s General Assembly in 2026. Past recipients of the UUA Distinguished Service Award can be found here:
