Smiling through the brokenness.

Looking through some pictures, of some friends that I have known
Their smiles caught my attention, as their lives have moved and grown

It’s not been a bed of roses, there’s been a lot of loss
But they continue on and serve the Lord, in spite of all the cost

Through the death of their loved ones, and even broken homes
They picked back up the pieces, and with Grace they travelled on

The camera is so deceiving, there’s a story it doesn’t tell
Those smiles on their faces, it seems that all is well

But I know their daily struggle, the fight that no one sees
The heavy weight of broken hearts, that bring them to their knees

They never share with others, the burdens that they face,
They simply try to move along, to find a better place

A picture is worth a thousand words, it’s said again and again
But no words can really describe, the hurt they’re living in

So when you see someone wear a smile, and assume that all is fine
Just lend an ear and understand, you just don’t know what’s on their mind

The picture tells a story, but God looks on the soul
And one day up in Heaven, our smile will be made whole
