From 6 September to 4 October 2026, the Presbyterian Church will be celebrating the World Communion Offering.

Pastor Nathaniel recently reflected on what that meant for our church here in Boonton.

“In 2024, the 226th General Assembly of the PCUSA approved a couple of changes to the national church wide offerings that are available. One of those changes was the transformation of the Peace and Global Witness Offering into the World Communion Offering. From 6 September to 4 October, Presbyterian Churches across the country will be engaged in this offering. The World Communion Offering is a new way for Presbyterians to “love kindness” and “do justice” in the world. There are all sorts of ways this offering goes to encouraging ecumenical partnerships with other christian denominations, advocating for peacemaking and peacebuilding, and working for racial justice. Further, congregations are able to apply for grants from the Presbyterian Mission Agency, to undertake ministry areas related to these thematic areas. For the next few Sundays, during our minute for mission, we will hear some stories from the Deacons on how this offering works to assist our fellow siblings in Christ all across the globe. This World Communion Offering is an excellent opportunity for us to discern and think about some partnerships, perhaps in our local area, that as a church, we would like to expand upon or build on. As we enter into this period of reflection and contemplation about loving kindness and doing justice, may we consider all the ways that we as a church community might want to engage more in these crucial and key areas of ministry.”

As we approach Labor Day weekend, we are reminded of the Social Creed for the 21st Century, which calls us to "offer a vision of a society that shares more and consumes less, seeks compassion over suspicion and equality over domination, and finds security in joined hands rather than in massed arms.”

“A Social Creed for the 21st Century” lifts up Jesus’ words in John 10:10, that he came so that we might have abundant life. It was adopted by the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and the National Council of Churches of Christ in the USA in 2008. You can read more about the Social Creed here: https://hubs.ly/Q04vZDGq0

Welcome back, Lumen Gentium Academy!

As a new academic year begins, we’re grateful to welcome the students, faculty, and staff of Lumen Gentium back to campus. We’re praying for a year filled with learning, growth, friendship, and opportunities to serve others.

We loved seeing the Lumen community begin the year by serving families in Tennessee, helping build homes for communities still recovering from Hurricane Helene. What a wonderful example of putting faith into action and caring for our neighbors in need.

From all of us at First Presbyterian Church of Boonton, welcome back! May God bless Lumen Gentium Academy with a safe, joyful, and fruitful academic year.

We are grateful for the laughter, the conversations, the delicious food, and most of all, the opportunity to celebrate the gift of our church family.

A huge thank you to everyone who came out, shared a meal, brought a dish, helped set up or clean up, and simply spent time enjoying fellowship with one another. Your presence made the afternoon so special!
