Thirty years later, SAT-7 remains committed to making God’s love visible wherever it’s needed most.

In 2019, Rita El-Mounayer stepped into leadership as SAT-7’s new CEO. She saw the ministry through the challenges of COVID-19, helping SAT-7 adapt to changing media habits.

With the rise of online streaming, SAT-7 launched the SAT-7 PLUS streaming platform, the Middle East’s first on-demand multi-language Christian video streaming service, in 2021.

Today, SAT-7 remains a pioneer. Through rooftop satellite dishes, mobile phones clutched in the dark, and laptops glowing late into the night, it transcends every border. SAT-7 continues flourishing in the work to make God’s love visible, wherever it is needed most in the MENA.

In Türkiye, believers were longing for a Christian television ministry in their own cultural context.

In 2006, SAT-7 ARABIC began to broadcast programs from the independent TURK-7 ministry as a Turkish-language content block.

In 2010, TURK-7 merged with SAT-7 and became a new channel, SAT-7 TÜRK. This later became the first Christian channel licensed to broadcast on Türkiye’s government-regulated Türksat platform.

As SAT-7 grew, it extended its ministry into the other main languages of the MENA.

Persian-language broadcasts began in 2002, initially on SAT-7 ARABIC, and immediately received a positive response. The work expanded and eventually led to the launch of SAT-7 PARS, a dedicated Persian-language channel, in 2006.

By 2013, with studios in both Cyprus and the UK, SAT-7 PARS was airing five live programs each week, strengthening the two-way ministry at the heart of SAT-7’s work.

SAT-7’s leaders recognized a need for children’s programs as they got repeated messages from parents saying how their sons and daughters lacked safe content.

To meet this need, SAT-7 introduced a daily one-hour children’s block in 2004. The overwhelming response led to the 2007 launch of SAT-7 KIDS, the world’s first 24/7 Arabic Christian children’s channel.

What began as short stories, songs, and prayers had become a lifeline for families across the Arab world.

On May 31, 1996, SAT-7 aired its first broadcast.

For two hours each week, Christian programming in the Arabic language began appearing on screens across the region via satellite. As programming increased, in 1997, SAT-7 opened its first studio in Lebanon and its first office in Egypt. By April 2000, SAT-7 was airing daily broadcasts in Arabic. The audience grew rapidly.

In 2005, SAT-7 launched its first live programs, transforming Christian television from one-way communication into a real-time conversation. Now the ministry was no longer simply broadcasting – it was connecting.

In 1982, Dr. Terence Ascott, a Christian publisher living in Cairo, had an encounter that sparked the idea behind SAT-7.

Walking home one day, he saw a family watching television under a tarp beside an unfinished building. He realized television could be more than entertainment and news; it could be a bridge to faith for those who might never encounter the written word of the Gospel.

Over many years, Dr. Ascott worked alongside Middle Eastern church leaders and international Christian agencies to turn his vision into reality. In November 1995, SAT-7 was founded: the first Christian satellite television ministry for the MENA.
