Jesus was once asked about the greatest expectation God has of His people; He answered by quoting scriptures from Deuteronomy and Leviticus: "You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind," and "You shall love your neighbor as yourself."
In Matthew 9:9-17, after calling Matthew to follow Him, Jesus teaches us that honoring God’s greatest commandments is also how we are to follow Him. Those who follow Jesus do so by following His way of loving others and enjoying being with Him.

People often struggle with seeking God’s forgiveness for sin; some view their sin as insignificant, while others view their sin as unforgivable.
In Matthew 9:1-8, when a man is brought to Him for healing, Jesus challenges those present with an opportunity to believe something new about Him. We can be certain that Jesus condemns sin; and yet He will give forgiveness for our sin, because He died in order to pay the price for that forgiveness.

The Bible warns us that the devil is hunting us like a lion to devour us (1 Peter 5:8). How often do we struggle against his temptations and deceptions? But we have an ally in this battle.
In Matthew 8:28-34, after the disciples see Jesus calm the sea and wonder just who He is, He takes them on a unique mission to help them better realize who He is. Christians can live with faith that Jesus is Lord over even the spiritual forces set against us.

What can God do? More specifically, what could God do through you? What is keeping Him from doing that? Jesus has told us.
In Matthew 8:18-27, when crowds began following Jesus to see His miracles, Jesus used the opportunity to teach us His expectations of those who wanted to become sincere followers. Jesus expects His disciples to follow Him with faith that He will help us to deal with the consequences of obedience.

In the Bible, we find Jesus continually dodging crowds who came for His healing. Why did He do that? Did the Healer not want to heal? Or was there perhaps a deeper purpose for His miraculous healing than simply providing people with temporary relief from their ailments?
In Matthew 8:1-17, God had Matthew share three instances of Jesus’ healing to help us understand how we can establish our faith in Him. The healing miracles of Jesus give our faith a foundation and help us understand Jesus’ motivation for what He does.
