"Because the flame rises upward, the term “ascent” is written regarding kindling the lamps, indicating that one must kindle them until the flame rises steadily on its own."
_—Rashi, Numbers 8: 2_

What a profound message!
It is not enough to just kindle the lamps: we must do so with the intention that every flame is enabled to rise steadily on its own.
This is the most sacred work a human being can do: to teach another to rise and burn on their own. This is empowerment at its best.

Let your flames rise upward, proud, steady, and strong. Now. And forever.

Today, we usher in Shavuot, the Jewish holiday (beginning this evening, Thursday, May 21st at sundown, and concluding Saturday, May 23rd after nightfall) that celebrates the giving of the Torah at Mount Sinai to every single Jew that ever was and ever will be.

And this changed everything! It fundamentally altered the relationship between G-d, humanity, and the physical world.
Before Sinai, spirituality and physicality were seen as separate realms. After Sinai, ordinary physical actions could become holy through mitzvot. A piece of leather could become Tefillin (Phylacteries). Food could become sacred through a blessing. Time itself could become holy through Shabbat and festivals.

Shavuot celebrates the connection between heaven and earth.
Holiness CAN live within everyday life.

Every soul still stands at Sinai, still being called toward light, love, and purpose.

Today, the 28th of Iyar (June 7th in 1967), we celebrate Yom Yerushalaim—Jerusalem Day!

Facing existential threat—Israel’s stunning Six-Day War victory reunified Jerusalem, including the Old City and the Temple Mount.

This miraculous triumph ignited a global Jewish awakening, inspiring countless Jews to reconnect with their heritage, embrace mitzvot, and pray once again at the liberated Western Wall. The Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, called it “an opportunity the likes of which has not been granted for thousands of years.”

It's up to us to keep the fire of this extraordinary opportunity blazing brightly—today and every day!

This Shabbat carries something extra — President Trump’s Shabbat 250 initiative is calling on Jews across America to observe Shabbat this week in honor of 250 years of this country, and I can’t think of a more meaningful way to mark it than around the table, with intention.

Compiled in 1942 by the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, Hayom Yom is a daily collection of Chasidic teachings and customs, a beloved source of ongoing inspiration.

Today's message reads: Every person must know that G‑d, through His individual Providence, gives each person the ability to bring G‑d's supernal Will from the potential state to the actual. This is done through fulfilling the mitzvot and strengthening Judaism and our holy Torah at all times in every place. All depends solely upon one's avoda-personal service of G-d.

Each of us can bring higher purpose into reality through our actions—every day, everywhere. It all comes down to what we choose to do.

Choose well!
Today.
And every day.

Bring G-d's supernal Will from the potential to the actual.

Today, the 14th of Iyar, is Pesach Sheini—"Second Passover". It commemorates the day when someone who was unable to bring the Passover offering at its appointed time was given the opportunity to fulfill the mitzvah exactly one month later. It's not just a date. It’s a personal message from Heaven: it’s not too late.

A second chance wasn’t an afterthought. It was written into our story from the very beginning.

Missed something? Drifted a little? Feeling distant?
You can always come back. It's never too late.

Take a moment. Eat a piece of matzah. Say a prayer.
Open a door you thought was closed. Your second chance is waiting for you.

Ethics of the Fathers (Pirkei Avos) is a treasured tractate of the Mishnah offering profound ethical teachings, wisdom, and life guidance from our Sages. It is traditionally studied on Shabbat afternoons between Passover all the way until Rosh Hashana, to carry its timeless message of light through the summer months.

As Rabbi Chanina son of Tradyon says (Ethics of the Fathers 3:2), "....But two who sit and exchange words of Torah, the Divine Presence rests amongst them, as is stated, "Then the G‑d-fearing conversed with one another, and G‑d listened and heard; and it was inscribed before Him in a book of remembrance for those who fear G‑d and give thought to His name." (Malachi 3:16)

Have coffee with a friend. Grab a moment with a colleague. Enjoy an outing with a relative.
Share words of Torah—meaningful messages of goodness, kindness, truth, and light.
Invite G-d into your conversation.
Feel His Divine presence. He certainly feels yours.

Today and tomorrow, we celebrate Rosh Chodesh Iyar: we close out the month of Nissan and welcome the new month of Iyar.

In Hebrew, the name Iyar itself is a divine acronym: Ani Hashem Rofecha—"I am the Lord, your Healer" (Exodus 15:26). Why is Iyar the month of healing? Just as Passover liberates us from external bondage—the Mitzrayim of Pharaoh—Iyar addresses the inner exile, the "Mitzrayim" of the soul: those narrow straits of fear, limitation, and emotional toxins that may linger even after freedom.

This is the month to release what still holds you back—discomfort, insecurity, old stories—and gently become whole.
